Dear Fran,

I'm sorry I haven't written for so long, I know I was going to write at the start of each month and I swear that some time soon I'll come good on that, but right now things are a little tricky. I'll be honest, finishing exams was probably the worst thing that's happened recently. When they finished there was this big release of pressure that brought me nearly to my knees. The couple of weeks after were pretty grim, I spent a long time getting too drunk, doing things I shouldn't and just generally acting out. I'm not sure about it, or why I don't feel as bad about it as I should but I'm at the tail end of it now, I think. I guess the thing that was stopping me from writing for so long was shame. After what happened on the first I didn't want to make you worry for my sake, I know you do, even if you wouldn't like to, and on the second. It's been an odd time, a lot of stuff has happened. Who can tell if it's for the better or for the worse, but it's definitely for the different. I guess the reason I assume you still worry is because there's part of me that still worries about you, I don't think I like that part, nor do I want it. I just don't seem to be able to get rid of it. Do you know what I mean?
Anyway, onto the slightly more lighthearted news, how've you been? I know you aren't going to be able to answer that question but feel free to answer anyway, just pretend I'm listening. I've been good, there's been quite a lot happening I have to say. The climbing club has finally had it's handover where the new exec get announced. I've managed to hold on to the club for another year, keeping the presidency again. It feels good that I've done a good enough job that people think I'll still do the best job in the club, I really feel like I've achieved something over the course of this year. We also had handover drinks, basically one big social where we all go out and get very very very very very drunk. it's the job of the old exec to buy the new exec their fist drink in the new position. Seeing as I retained my old position, I had another member of the exec buy me a drink with some money I gave him. All I will say is this, if you mix baileys with gin and rum... just don't mix baileys gin and rum, ok?  I don't think it's technically still a drink when it goes solid. Also we did a strawpedo race between the old and new members of the club, with the losers having to go sit in a box for two minutes (we improvised, there wasn't much time to think of a punishment), even though we had an extra person, 6 to their 5, we still won. I don't think I've ever drunk anything as fast as I did that. A strawpedo is a reef or vk with a straw in it, you have to drink it as fast as you can and use the straw to let air in so you can drink it with your mouth around the bottle. It's fairly hard to describe if you don't know what it is but I'll assume you do know as most unis do it as I hear. Anyway the night was pretty heavy but a lot of fun, we all ended up in different places, some in the building where I lived last year and others in this bar/club above a fish and chip shop towards the north.
Iv'e also had a go at being a freshers rep next year. I really want to get involved in fresher's week this time round, all my friends who repped at the start of this year had a lot of fun and I really feel like I missed out in not doing it before. I had my interview this afternoon so I'm hoping for the best. I'm not sure how it went, I've kind of picked up a cold over this past week (a cold in this time of year... seriously?) so I was a little under the weather when I was talking but I really hope what I said made sense and that I get to be a frep. If that doesn't work then I'm going to see if I can run as welfare for freshers. I live with the new welfare head so it shouldn't be too difficult to convince him. He's a really nice guy, in face all of my new house are, so I'm looking forward to living with them. That said I'm not looking forward to moving out of this house. I live with four linguists right now and at the end of this term they're all going abroad. I'm feeling a little tender about that, I really don't want them to go, they're all close friends. I'd rather they didn't leave the country for a year, even though there's nothing I can do and it's unreasonable to act like this, but hey, not much I can do about it.
Anyway they all just got back so I must dash for supper.
Talk to you later
