Two days ago I was in tremendous pain.  The worst I've ever experienced.  I drained the largest nodule with a sewing needle, stuck it in and stretched the holle large enough to start drainage.  Instant pain reduction.  My wife offered to lance it with a razor blade or scalpel but I just couldn't let my wife stab me in the scrotum with a knife.  I saw my family doctor the next day and he wanted me to go to the ER and have them lance it again.  I said no.  I've been at ER's for HS dozens of times and the wait can be forever, besides, it's draining still (a bit).  
Family doctors aren't much good for HS other than to get a two week course of antibiotics or refer you to a dermatologist.  I like my family doc but he really can't do anything for my HS or my other serious problems.  Very helpful with my medical forms for work.
I'm obviously feeling a bit better because I wouldn't have the focus to put together these paragraphs.
To my fellow HS sufferers, I say this - I feel your pain, we all flare up, we all drain and we all suffer like no one without HS can understand.  Your not alone.
