Starting Over
What a road I've traveled since my last entry! I finally got approval in December of 2010 and was scheduled for surgery in January 2011. I got the news while I was speaking with Dan at OZ Fitness about starting a pre-GBS exercise program. During that interview with Dan I got 2 phone calls actually. The first was from my OB/GYN doctor saying my results were in and I needed a hysterectomy as soon as possible. Five minutes later was the call saying I was on the surgical schedule for the RNY surgery after a full year of jumping through hoops.
Long story short: The surgery got put off in favor of the hysterectomy and Dan convinced me to give him 3 months to prove to me he could get the weight off without rearranging my insides. I had the hysterectomy and started on my journey with Dan. I found some success but plateaued at 35lbs off. He got promoted and was no longer allowed to train so I switched to Kris. Again, couldn't break through the plateau no matter what I did. Got involved with Positive Changes and had the best success of my life. I lost a total of 73lbs and plateaued at 243. I kept the weight off for a year but couldn't lose even 1 more pound. Got frustrated with all the time and energy involved just to go nowhere and ended up gaining almost all of the weight back....which brings me to now.
I can't do this anymore. I thought for sure I had it licked with Positive Changes. I wasn't even close to my goal but hadn't weighed 243 since my 25year old was born. I felt fantastic! Then banging my head against the wall trying to actually reach my goal got to be more than I could take and I threw my hands up in despair. So here we go again, pretty much from the beginning.
I attended the required information session on May 7th. Some things have changed since last time though. Now I don't have to worry about any of the "out of contract hospital" issues with my insurance. They moved their whole set-up to Deaconess which is owned by the company I work for and everything is covered without issue. They will even cover the 20% my insurance doesn't.
The other difference is that now they offer the sleeve as well as the RNY surgery. Something that is definitely worth considering though I may not qualify due to having Barret's Esophogitis. One glitch however is the fact that my doctor of 13 years jumped ship in March and left me without a primary care provider. I'm scheduled to start with my next choice of physicians in October, the earliest I could get in. That leaves me hanging for 6 months and they won't start the process without a PCP. Yesterday I signed up with another one despite the fact that I didn't want to but I have to get in sooner than October or it will take an unacceptable amount of time just to start jumping through insurance hoops again. It took a full year last time to get qualified. So much time, effort and money for nothing. I don't think it will take that long this time but who knows and the longer it takes to start, the longer it takes to get my surgery done.
So that's where I'm at. I haven't decided yet whether the sleeve or the RNY surgery is the best bet. I'm waiting to hear when my consultation appointment with the surgeon will be and waiting for my first appt. with the new PCP in July. Meanwhile I do research and try to get my head in the game.
