I like to think of her as the doe who birthed two little does in the spring of this year.  With this thinking, my little puppy mind can imagine that she replaced herself at least twice this year that she laid down her life for the Great Hunter Man.  Guy has finished his annual hunting quest with the large Mama Doe who will fill our freezer for the coming cold winter months.  I write this with great gratitude to the Mother Goddess and Her wonderful creatures.  I write this with tears in the corner of my eyes even though I realize that life and death are part of the great cycle of the world. All in all, it’s been a much more quiet hunting season than usual.  In the past, I have felt compelled to wear hunter orange when I walked the little puppups, but this year, the shots ringing across the hill are few.  It has just been a quiet shotgun season even though hunters are permitted to harvest three deer.  With that being said, Guy is done and as usual is grateful to have gotten one.  He’s also grateful that it wasn’t drawn out for the entire season which runs though Sunday then again for a weekend in December.  Even with this sizable doe, we will be able to share the bounty with others for which I am also grateful. My gratitude is sweeter because I know that this Mama replaced herself twice just this year and probably many times over the course of her life.  Now, I need to think of a proper offering to the Mother for this wonderful, blessed gift…

Ed no longer hunts right now he can\'t due to his back. But use to enjoy the deer\'s he\'d get every season. It helped feed our big houseful of kids for months. Plus was alot cheaper then going to the store and buying meat..

You wrote this so eloquently and I felt your feelings over and over. I cry as I too can hear the gunshots echoing through the mountains and it breaks my heart to know that a deer has died. Although I do understand that the deer population must be thinned out and that people must eat.

Apparently one got at our bird feeder and knocked it over. And they have been nibbling on my new, tiny holly plant. I\'m hoping Ron can build a wooden shield to put over it. They can be pesky but I love to see them in the yard. They are so beautiful, especially when they come with the little ones.

Have a great day and I\'ll chat with you soon. ooxx

Offer salt, and a some small shiny thing. Perhaps some beads. She will be pleased. Love you Cj.
