I don't like that surgeon I saw yesterday.  He mistook my nervousness for what he called an attitude.  Instead of taking care of my needs, he walked out of the room saying he'd be back when I calmed down.  I never!!  He saw 4 or 5 other patients while I sat there getting more upset, not calming down.  If my sister had not had to waste her time taking me there, I would have walked out and said forget it.  I'll take the chemo without the port.  He did finally come deal with me.  The operation is scheduled for the 14th.  If for some reason he cancels it, I will say forget it.I got little sleep last night for rerunning the visit over and over, thinking how I might have handled it differently.

does this surgeon have a colleague who you could see instead? who might be able to make you feel more comfortable w/ having the procedure? its so important to feel good about our doctors. kinda hard to have faith in them otherwise, and they don\'t do a hill-of-beans good towards our nervousness/anxiety if we don\'t feel comfortable!
its so easy for doctors/surgeons/specialists to see only through their rose shaded glasses. they see so many people on a daily basis, to where we\'re left to feel like nothing but a number to them (at least I\'ve felt that way before!) They don\'t see us as individuals w/ every one of us having different feelings, apprehensions, worries and needs. They see us as \"all the same.\"
thankfully i like my surgeon. hoping that you can either make this one you saw behave humanly or you can find a different one!!! Good luck! Keep your chin up!

Thanks for your feedback, CloudDreamer.
I am not a person who easily stands up to others if I feel--threatened, for lack of better word. I just turn away, and keep my mouth shut as I have for decades--probably what gave me high blood pressure. :-)
The prodedure is scheduled for this coming Wednesday. When the chemo is done, I\'ll see if the first surgeon can remove the port for me. I trust him. I don\'t know why the oncologist did not mention him when he said I should have a port.
I\'ll just be glad when it\'s all over so I can try getting to work. If the store is still open then.
Good week to you,
Belcat

I hear you there about keeping your mouth shut. I did that for years! Was always walked all over! Probably why I have high blood pressure too! Interestingly, it was my surgeon who told me to stand up for myself to my oncologist & tell him how I expected things to be. Then in his next breath he says, \"Though it doesn\'t seem like its in your nature, but you need to!\" I\'ll keep you in my prayers that your port surgery goes well! Keep posted about your status as you can/want to! Take care!
