8 Hours!
Yesterday, I found myself in a position where I couldn't walk more than five feet without excruciating pain. My right knee, which had been hurting for more than a week, hurt too much. Since my car is more than five feet away and getting in to see a doc at the county clinic is next to impossible even if I could walk, I had to call an ambulance to go to the E.R. Since my knee was not an extreme emergency, I was placed in a wheelchair to wait my turn. By the time I got out, it had been 8 hours! They did an ultrasound and exray. The exray didn't show anything out of the ordinary and the ultrasound showed a little blockage that I knew about. So, the doc said it was probabl arthritis setting in and prescribed some pain pills that I'll get tomorrow when I go to the grocery store. All this took 8 hours! I called a taxi to get home(after midnight now) He picked me up in a relatively short time. I asked him if he could do me a favor and stop by a convenience store so I could some cigarettes. He said he could and we took off. I noticed he wasn't going the same direction the other taxis had taken me. Well, I knew what the fare would and had decided to give the driver a bigger tip for his trouble. I had a price in mind. Since he took a longer route, the fare was about $3 dollars more. Well, when we got the apartments, he got what I had planned. His share was $3 less than it could have been. Today is Kit's day. I normally grocery shop on Thursdays but since I was gone so long yesterday, today is his. There's no place I HAVE to be so we'll be together.

Oh precious Mike -- I do, sadly, relate all too well to the ER \'park it in a corner\' and wait, wait, wait, and wait some more. The difficult part is we were willing to call 911 because we felt desperate enough to seek immediate medical intervention. The ER has been the \'poor person\'s\' doctor visit for years so perhaps with the Affordable Care Act we will see more people covered who may then seek out a real doctor\'s visit outside of the ER room -- this will be HUGE PROGRESS, if all is implemented well enough by those with overwhelming greed who are in charge.
I\'m so very happy you and Kit are together. Also, happy you have such a loving, caring sister as a safety net -- she sure has stepped up to bat for you.
