7th Heaven

A quick note:  My heart is singing.  T stayed home AGAIN last night, on a Saturday night -no less!!!  We were even home last night, too.  He watched a basketball game with his dad and listening to them interact was a wonderful feeling.  T never was interested in sitting long enough to watch a game.  He never wanted to go to any sporting events with us before.  Now he's interested in going to a basketball game, so my hubby got tickets.    Today?  He asked me if I would pick up his friend across town to drop them off at  the local park (where he was once arrested and used to hang out during his high using days) because they wanted to play football with a bunch of friends.  The friend, Ryan, I picked up has been friends with T for years, since preschool.  This boy always seemed a bit edgy to me but very polite and nice.  Until recently, these  two used drugs together and, therefore, T rarely brought him here during that time.  Since Ryan's parents are divorced the boys spent a lot of time at his house,  I'm sure when his mom wasn't home.  Today, however, the two of them are sober together.  To hear them laughing and talking about funny things they did when they were much younger was heartwarming.  The combination of being sober, extra support, and maturity is the key.  He asked us yesterday if he could have his cell phone back.  I am not ready to do that, however.  I told him that his dad and I have to talk about it.  There still are some things he needs to do to earn that privilege back.  One - attend AA regularly with written proof, and to pass the two remaining classes he has managed to salvage.  Then we will think about it.
