Hi,

Actually this is original... a letter to everyone... that I didn't send to anyone else first... aren't yall proud of me...

It is a continuation of my the previous journal entry... I did go to see Geri yesterday. I was very glad to see her but I can't describe how sad also.

She's now a wee little woman in a hospital bed waiting and probably praying for it to be over. They've removed her left leg.

I wonder sometimes if its worth it. They removed my dad's leg mid Dec 1994. He died on April 2, 1995... 3 and 1/2 months... and they weren't good months... perhaps when your condition is that bad... I don't know... We always hope...

Her mouth is drawn tight with the pain. Even after they give her a shot of morphine it doesn't seem to let up. Her mind comes and goes.

As bad as it all is I hope that for a few minutes I gave her a little peace. We talked about old times and teased each other a bit as we always have.

She told me what plans she has told the kids she wants for her burial. She wants to be cremated and buried with her husband's ashes.

I told her Yancey would be taking a shower and putting on his cologne. We often knew he'd had enough of our company because he would go take his shower and put on cologne...

You wouldn't have thought to look at him that Yancey was a very romantic man but he was and he dearly loves Geri. She won't be alone when she goes home. For now though... its not good...

Should I share this... should I not... I don't know... I'm very sad... I'm not afraid... not about death... but I'm sad... So again... as selfish as it is... I am writing it down... trying to deal with it...

Life is so short. It is so difficult to lose a friend and it is even harder to watch them suffer at the end. That is the hardest part of
getting old. I read the obituaries occasionally and always seem to
find someone that I have known in the past. Some were co workers,
and some were bank customers that had become friends and some were
just people that I knew. The only way we can say goodbye to our
friends and aquaintances is to share with others. I say a little
prayer for them and hope that they now have eternal happiness. Love!

Elissa,
Spend as much time as you can with your friend. When I was with my Mom ,in her last days, many people who have similar symptoms as your friend were at her \"home\" and they didn\'t last very long. Please know that I\'m trying to prepare you that since she Her mind comes and goes\' she may be dialing down to go to see Jesus. Our system can only take so much and I wish someone would have told me that when my Mom was so sick and \'dialing down\'. I would have spent every minute with her that I could, but the doctors kept giving us hope that she was recovering.
Take care and you are good friend to see your friend and be there for her. Hang in there. Love, Betty.
