I'm writing a sad entry today... its not because I'm really feeling deeply sad... although writing this and thinking about it... it makes me sad... I'm too tired to be mad anymore... but oh am I sad...

Its not about the loss of a loved one... its the loss of dignity, hope, believing in the basic goodness of mankind... Maybe here... but in the quote real world... its a business decision... what pompous words to cover up that you are a cold calculating machine... Ah well you're no different than the vast majority of your kind...

So anyway I was writing a message to a friend here on daily strength... and I got carried away... so I put it here... I'll write her a short note hoping to offer comfort... I can't tell her all of this... I'm not sure I should be sharing it here... We do come because we need comfort... but someday... someone is going to have to deal with what is going on... I'm sorry... but I'm in no way strong enough to do it... So read at your own risk... perhaps you shouldn't... Its definitely not a comforting journal entry...

I imagine all I will tell you are things you already know but maybe not... Looking for a job in my opinion is one of the hardest things we do... an application is more of a tool for an employer to decide why they don't want to hire you then for them to see the qualities that would make you a good investment for them...

The thing they want most is to get help for the least amount possible... And they have no shame about it... More and more "business decisions" are being made that cut people's throats...

Last night I was watching a program where corporate types were saying they have to have illegal aliens to work as a low paid work force in order to keep prices down... they're not worried about a down trodden people having a future. What a hoot... If that were for real I would be glad... but its not.

They blackmail us but saying look at how much it would cost for a head of broccoli if we didn't use this cheap labor force... When we went to Washingtobn DC this past year a great majority of the people in service occupations were hispanic... hey we were immigrants too... I'm not complaining about that... I'm complaining about the lies and liars... don't tell me you want this for the good of all mankind... heck as much as I hated what they were saying last night I respect their honesty...

Now I hate reading them because they are hard reading but sometimes I read business type magazines just to get a feel for what's going on... I have been talking about these things for so many years... Back in the 90s... there was a lot of talk about what was wrong with America was the welfare system...

Now I agree the system is and was a joke... much better to give people pride and a job... than a handout... and don't play games... don't act like they can have a decent lifestyle on substandard pay...

I personally favor a job and rental assistance or stuff like that as needed... for a time... but anyway... I
didn't believe then and I don't believe now... that the welfare "cheats" are the total problem... nor even the vast majority of the problem...

I think what they were calling then "Corporate Welfare" is the main problem... Heck poor people don't have enough power and often not enough education to manipulate the system near as well as the money and power folks...

I don't hear that term often anymore... guess its not a problem anymore... The farmers better look out... Farm subsidies going to people not to grow crops (when they weren't going to anyway) and stuff seem to be getting a lot of attention...

Ahhh and as for big business... I read articles about companies welching on deals they made with employees on retirement plans... the insurance they thought was going to be there for them just keeps going up and up until they can't afford it...

Their retirement pay is being eaten up by their increasing copays for dr visits, medicine, any and all medical services... so they don't have them... they don't go to the dr... they don't buy their medicines... and they die...

Well... that seems to be the goal anyway... you're of no more use... jump off a cliff won't you and get out of the way...

Oh but we have all these fine programs to assist people... Yeah Right! I've had to use assistance programs and worked for them... seeing it from both sides I can tell you they're a joke...

The vast majority of money for programs to assist people isn't used on them... its jobs for people who have an "in" Most of the time if you get hired without an "in" you're going to give up because believe me they're going to make your life hell...

Other agencies such as the Job Service can tell you the agency has an extrordinary amount of turnover... but no one does anything about it... I could go on for hours about what I believe is going on in this country...

Since the early 80s I've said we had a revolution and never fired a shot... You remember the propaganda about women needing to work to be "fulfilled" Since when wasn't creating a warm, nurturing and loving environment for your family fulfilling...

Since you were told it wasn't... So then we had to "find" ourselves... studies have shown that women still do the majority of all household tasks... and they work full time too... So are we fulfilled now... are our families happier... children's lives more satisfying...

I know a lot of us are thinking these things but we don't have any power to change things... I've bucked the system a few times... got shafted... what else is new...

Most of the time I don't talk about these things... I try not to even think about them... but even the change of the gallon of bleach becoming 3qts or x number of liters... its a game they think we're too stupid to catch...

Candy bars years ago regularly sold for .25... so a local store put up a big display... 3 for a dollar... folks were grabbing them right and left... I mentioned it to the store owner/manager... it was a small town grocery... I was somewhat amused... so he changed the sign to 4 for a dollar... whoopie... big sale.... These are small matters... but they are examples of what's going on in a much larger pattern...

Some larger patterns... look at the price of gas... look at the millions even billions of dollars these industries generated for their shareholders this past couple of years...

The insurance industry... awwwwww they're having it rough... right... they are still one of the biggest money makers of all and irregardless of claims are still reporting increasing profits...

The future to me is frightening... I'm glad I'm getting older closer to finished with my time on earth... but I am sad and worried for my children, grandchildren... someday their children...
