I've been in Florida this weekend. Richard plays with the Baton Rouge Community Concert Band and they were asked to play for the National Association of Community Bands. Its quite an honor to be asked to play and I was very happy for them.

We've known about this for some time and looked forward to it. Unfortunately the antibiotics I'm on make me quite ill so our activities were limited. I know Richard was frustrated that I wasn't up to much sightseeing but I'm just glad I could make the trip...

They played beautifully and I am proud of all of them. The band from Gainesville played one of my favorite pieces, "October" and I really enjoyed that also. I have often thought how much less my life would be without music.

I am not a highbrow although I would aspire to be *Smile*. I enjoy many kinds of music. Country, Jazz, Popular, The Oldies oh absolutely and so many more... don't like heavy metal, rap, boom boxes UGH!!! but wide open music (panoramic I call it)... music that makes your heart soar that is my favorite...

In addition and much harder to handle is the fact that my stepsister JoAnn passed away Friday morning. She has been battling cancer for the third round in a couple of years and we were all much less hopeful this time. Still it comes as a shock and we are much saddened.

I mourn most of all for my stepmother. This is her 5th child to pass. I have written of this in my journal before. I have felt such sadness for her for years. You keep wondering how can this happen to one mother. As a mother who has had one child pass and knowing how that feels for me I just don't want to imagine Flo's pain... but I do and its rough. There is no fixing it. Time eases it but its always a part of us.

They are having a memorial service for JoAnn Thursday in Oklahoma. The service will be at 1pm CST and I would be grateful to all my friends here at DS if you get a chance and remember if you would take just a moment to send a loving thought to JoAnn and her family.

JoAnn is such a loving person. She has 89... count them... 89 penpals that she communicated with on a regular basis. JoAnn always gave of herself. She wanted your happiness. She wanted to be a friend and a comforter to everyone. She was an angel to me and many many others and now she will be an angel for the world. Bless you JoAnn. We love you and we will remember you.

JoAnn's husband Jim, oh its so hard to describe how sad I feel for him... He has been JoAnn's rock forever and she his... and now he is alone... We love him but we cannot replace JoAnn... His care for her has been awesome!

I am glad you had a good trip and made it safely home. You and I seem to like the same types of music...I think that\'s neat!
I am saddened to hear of your sister, her husband and mother. And for you, it is so hard to accept when we lose someone isn\'t it? My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your entire family!
Give Richard a hug, a big hug and pretend that it is from me, ok? Love you, Kat

Sorry for the loss of Joann. She seems like she was a wonderful person. I don\'t many people who write 89 different people and stay consistant in that. She is in a better place now... :)
