This was something I wrote for my son not long after he started preschool.   Dirty Shirts and Painted Fingers  The big, metal monster came   to take you into the uncertain  You looked so scared; you looked so confused   as to why this was one monster   Daddy wouldn’t scare away  And then you were gone.  I didn’t know what to do;   I didn’t know what to think  So I just waited;   I waited   and waited   and waited  And the big, metal monster brought you back,   but you didn’t seem as scared anymore,   so maybe it wasn’t a monster after all  But it did bring you back,   with a dirty shirt and painted fingers,   and most importantly, a smile.   From,   Daddy
