I visited my son's possible (actually, probable) preschool yesterday. I left the visit with a mental conflict. I was encouraged because the lead teacher said there would be two lead teachers, and the class would be split, leaving only five or six students per class. That means more individual attention for my son!! The lead teacher did recommend that he go every day (Mon.-Thur.) because she plans her "units" to be one week long, and one class builds on the previous class. She also recommended that he go the full day (8:30-3:30), but she also said she is flexible on the hours. I got my son out of his stroller once we got to the room, and he was off, exploring the entire room. I think he liked it, but we will see when he's there without me :(

I always have two days off in the middle of the week, and my early interventionist and child psychologist said that he is making such good progress at home that they recommend he be there as much as possible. They also recommended that he could go for half days on the days I don't work, and I would pick him up at lunchtime. I like how this sounds better because the lead teacher said that mornings are more important than afternoons, and I just don't know what I would do without my playmate at home!!

I know my son isn't even three yet, but this seems like another sign that he is starting to grow up, or maybe it just feels that way. I have gotten so used to having him around, depending on me for everything that giving up any of that leaves me feeling uneasy. Part of me is wanting to keep him at home all the time, but part of me is also saying that this is the beginning of giving up his developmental reins, a little at a time. I feel a little sad, but I also feel, well, I just don't know how to describe what I'm feeling. Any clues would be appreciated!!

You are having son withdrawls before they happen! HA! I think it is beautiful that you want to spend all your time with him. I think the half day program sounds better then every day all day especially with how close you two are. I think he needs the every day routine, and not missing out, but maybe the half days are good when you can do them. Sometimes they will do something special on certain days...like music and movement on Thurs...ect.., so you wouldn\'t want him to miss out on that. Is your son a good eater? Mine is so picky that I often wonder how he can go all day and what he would eat for lunch if he had to go to school all day.
