What a weekend! I fired up the grill. My entire family came over. It was just a great time. And all that wasn't even the best part.

I had a meeting with the child psychologist last Friday. She wanted to meet us at a local shopping mall that has a HUGE play area for children to see how my son interacts with other children. He started with his line following/stimming. I a little glad he did this because the psychologist could see him do it. She seems to think the overstimulation may have a part in this. Maybe the continuity helps my son deal with it; I'm not really sure. Then, my son went down the slide a few times, and I chased him under it threatening to "get his belly". Sometimes, I think he lets me catch him just so he can get tickled. He was asking my to play with him (in his non verbal way), but he also asked me a few times. He is getting better with this words "I want" when it comes to asking for something, and he actually did it for the child psychologist (De). She has worked with us quite a it over the past month, so I think my son is getting more comfortable with her. She seems encouraged by this, and the best is yet to come.

There was a little girl playing with my son's favorite toy (a play wheel). Normally, he wouldn't do anything but wait, and the second the child would stop playing, my son would go and start playing with it. But this time, he went over to the girl and acted as if he was going to push her aside. I quickly reminded him to be nice, so he stepped back for a few seconds. He went back to the girl and said, "Please," and then he leaned over and hugged her!!! Me, my wife, and the child psychologist, we were all stunned. My son has rarely (if ever) even acknowledged another child's existence, and here he is, asking "please" and hugging a little girl he has never met!! On the inside, I was crying. On the outside, I was beaming with joy. This journey with my son has had many ups and downs, and this was definitely one of the "ups", almost near the top of where we've been so far. I am so proud of him!!
