I didn't really get to spend much time with my son this past weekend. We are in the process of finishing our basement. Half of it is going to be a HUGE playroom for my son. I can't wait to get it set up and see the look on is face when he goes down to see it for the first time.

I spent most of the weekend painting the basement, and every time I came upstairs for a fresh air break, I saw him playing and felt guilty for not spending more time with him. A few times, he would look at me and smile, which made me feel even more guilty when I went back downstairs. My wife was playing with him most of the day, so somebody was, but it wasn't me, and I felt badly about it. I talked to my wife about this, and she said it was for a good cause, our son and the playroom he will soon have. I guess it just boils down to the fact that I love my son, and I want to spend as much time as I can with him. I did spend enough time with him on Friday to teach him to answer the question, "Who loves you?" He will look at my wife, smile, and say, "Mommy." I think my wife started crying a little when he said this for the first time.

We had our meeting with the early interventionist and child psychologist, and it went extremely well. They were amazed at the progress he's made. The child psychologist had't seen him for two weeks, and she said he almost seems like a different child. They were very encouraging. The early interventionist showed us where our son was six months ago and where he is now, and my wife and I were almost in tears at the progress he's made. I cannot say enough about EARLY INTERVENTION and how important it is. I am so excited at his progress, but I also had to pull myself down off cloud nine. I can't let this go to my head. I have to keep working hard with my son to teach him what he needs to know. I can't be content with progress. With contentment comes complacency, and I love my son too much to allow myself to fall into this pattern. We still have a long way to go, and I have to realize and keep reminding myself this. But days (and meetings) like this give me more hope for the future, a bright future with a bright little boy.

I am so happy for you and the progress you son is making. I am sure he will also love the new play room. I think it is ok to enjoy a few moments on cloud nine. I think those moments make us believe that anything is possible in our children and sometimes we need a little break and take the pressure off for a few minutes. I know when those days come and I see a little hope I feel so renewed. They are a work in process...we just have to have the patience to wait and see what will be. One thing I think is wonderful ...you enjoy and cherrish every aspect of your son. What a great dad!
