It had been a pretty good week for me. Many of you have sent me messages, offering advice, and for that, I sincerely thank you. This past Friday, I found out that the chemotherapy my dad had been going through worked. The PET scan came back showing no signs of cancer!! What a relief!

I spoke with a friend of mine I haven't spoken to for a long time and told him about my son falling under the autism spectrum. He had many questions, which I answered, but I felt a little odd. I had feelings of grief and guilt about my son. I thought I was starting to get over it, but I still have work to do on my emotions. I started feeling bad for my son and what I perceived as "lost possibilities" all over again. I don't know if it was divine intervention or what, but I started realizing (again) that there aren't lost possibilities, just different possibilities. I am NEVER going to let my son think there are things he cannot do. I just don't know what it says about me as a parent when I talk about my son's autism and start feeling grief and guilt. My strong point is the love and support I show my son, but I need to work on the grief and guilt thing.

My son did do a pretty amazing thing last night. He pretty much has the alphabet mastered, and he can count to ten. On a whim, I started writing the numbers 11-20 on his magna doodle. After about two minutes, he had those numbers (except for 20, which he calls "O teen"). So he can now count from 0 to 19, which is pretty amazing to me for a 2 1/2 year-old. Also, for the first time, he came to me with an empty sippy cup and said, "juice," asking for a cup of juice. This is the first time he has come to me asking for something!! I was amazed that he did this; it makes me feel like I might be doing something right. My little boy is just a wonder, and situations like this make me love him more (if that is even possible).

On a lighter note, I checked on him before I went to bed last night. He was sitting in the corner of his bed. He was sleeping while sitting, slumped over. He somehow managed to unzip his pajamas, and his belly looked like it was hanging out. If I hadn't just put him to bed, I would have taken a picture of it.
