72 Hour Hold for Minors

72 Hour Hold for Minors is an involuntary hospitalization for teens who become a danger to themselves or others under code Welfare and Institutions Code Section 5150 or 5585 for minors. While this is a very extreme step to be taken, and is usually not envoked lightly, it can be a much needed wake up call that the teen requires more support or possible treatment in an area of their lives. Often this is related to suicidal threats or ideation the minor has made, leading to a mental health issue that would need treatment. In some cases, a substance abuse has played a role in making the teen a danger to either their own saftety, or they have threatened another person. In these types of scenarios, its not unwise to consider a longer period of rehabilitation and therapy to address the issues that lead the individual to this point. Teen depression rehab or teen addiction rehab may be options worth looking into to get them back on track and feeling themselves again.
