Today
After all this time, would I give up my 30 years with Susan? That question is simple to answer, I would happily shout a resounding NO. I learned a lot from her, mostly how to communicate and not be so shy (I’ve since learned that I’m a INFJ and shy) around others. I wouldn’t give up any of my memories of her and her ways. Now I can have memories of her at any time without disrupting someone else’s life. I will admit that I am breaking one of my promises to her, ‘not to be alone.’
"I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with you and then I realized... you spent the rest of your life with me. I smile because I know you loved me till the day you went away." – Unknown
Would I give up any of the new adventures? NO. Friends are great, but they aren’t there all the time as they have their own lives. Am I gradually learning to be on my own? YES. I am meeting new people in my travels and learning to talk with them in an everyday fashion. Being by myself, I force myself not to be as tongue-tied as I once was.
"Why on earth did you have to die on me, just when I needed you most?" - Unknown
I’ve kept close family (both sides, as her family continues to include me in all functions) at a distance, so I never feel they are in charge of my life because as I’ve gotten older, everyone seems to think they know what is best for me. I really enjoy the time with family in the past and plan more moments in the future.
Few people have ever taught me as much as she. She was always concerned for others and their life. She was one of the most astounding people to be around, yet she never made everything about her or herself.
