I am through blaming my H for my unhappiness and my failed marriage. I can’t go on in life feeling sorry for myself and wishing things had been different. Things are what they are and I have no choice but to move forward from here. I don’t have nor have I ever had it as bad as a lot of women on here. At times things were tough and I put up with a lot more then I ever should have but that was my choice. I chose to stay for all those years. I made that decision many years ago..that was what I wanted. I wanted to give this marriage all that I had..I wanted to have that happy family. It hasn’t all been bad...we have many wonderful memories together, the birth of our children, our many family vacations, camping trips, movie nights... We had bad times but when he would hold me in his arms, everything would feel alright. I would get that warm, cozy feeling even after being together for many many years...I had so many hopes and dreams. Slowly over the years we began to grow apart, the words became harder to forget. They stayed etched in my mind, my heart began to break piece by piece and a wall began to build around it...as much I tried I could not forgive him and I could not get back those feeling that I once had for him. I would look at him and it was almost like I was looking at a stranger..I couldn’t even see the man I once loved. I couldn’t find those things in him that once gave me hope...sadly I slowly fell out of love with him. As hard as I tried to grasp back on to those feeling I once had they were gone. We simply became two people living in the same house, sharing expenses. For the past three years we never speak, we never hug or have any kind of physical contact. I sleep in my own room where I watch TV and go on my computer...he sleeps in the basement where he watches TV there. He does lash out at me at times but I no longer feel anything...his words mean nothing. They don’t hurt anymore because my heart isn’t in it anymore. I cry because I am lonely and want out of here not because his words hurts me. I feel nothing..I am numb...I will always care about him because he is the father of my children but somebody has to make that move. Life is passing us by and we are both just living day to day... I will be the one who has to go because he believes in his wedding vows and that until death do us part should mean exactly that..that we stood before God and made a promise that we should never break. It hurts that I have to be the one to hurt him...I use to think years ago when he was being abusive that my payback would come the day I walked out that door. That on that day when he was finally all alone he would understand the hurt and pain that he caused us. But now that the time has come I struggle with hurting him....I know he is miserable too and I want him to be happy again. And sadly he will never have that if we stay together. In order for that to happen I have to let him go for the sake of both of us....he might not understand that now but he will in time. 20+ years is a long time and people change. The person you were a long time ago is not necessarily the person you are today...time has a way of changing people. I have grown from who I was way back then. I wish it could have been forever, that we could have grown old together, that we could have had that happily ever after but it wasn’t meant to be.....who knows what the future holds for us but in order to find that out I have to walk out that door and not look back..I have to be the one to give us both the chance to find the peace and happiness we deserve...we couldnt find it together...maybe we will be able to find it apart......

Such incredible pain you have endured and what amazing insite you have. Yes, other women have suffered other horrible abuses... but that in no way negates or lessons your own suffering. Your story is just as painful and horrible, especially considering how long it has lasted. Your spirit may feel broken but I\'ve heard your dreams and your hope which still exist and I believe there is a life for you out there... after this. I agree with your conclusion... one of you needs to step away and you are strong to see that. You are stronger than you realize... you will find your way to that quiet, cozy apartment where finally you will feel at home. And when you do... you will dance and sing and your spirit will sore with the powerful and joyous feeling of relief and freedom!

These words are ME....My life.....My marriage. I know your pain. I live with it daily. Some days are better than others, but those days are spent in denial usually to keep the peace. You are a strong person, very intellegent. I know you will be fine. Hugs. The harder the day, the more time you should spend pampering yourself. Hugs girl. Stay strong.
I was exactly where you are now, just a year ago and those words you wrote could have been mine. I chose to stay apart once we separated and yes, many things have changed for the better but now I\'m facing a whole different set of issues. I still believe I did the right thing though and wouldn\'t ever go back to the way it was. I congratulate you Laurel on realizing where things are for you and seeing that they aren\'t going to change. Too much has taken place over to long a period for it ever to be what it was or what we would like it to be. Now it\'s time for you to do something about it. I wish you all the luck in the word and hope you find the peace your looking for. I love you honey.
Yup, what she said.

It is a very hard thing to leave the husband and father of your children. It is scary and it takes a lot of courage. I stayed in unhappy marriage for 13 years. I had a job,but dide not make enough to support me and e growing boys. My ex-husband had always made it clear if I left or he moved out, that he would not help me any. My oldest son around 19, and moved out, my youngest was just at the wrong age for a change like that. He was around 13. I finally told my husnamd he could have whatever he wanted, if he would just sign my divorve papers. My son did the back and forth ting for awhile.I took my clothes and cedar chest and my personal items. I left a paid for home and land.Like uou we had some very good memories and some great times with our children. I married him for the wrong reason.I married him for secutity I thout I loved him. He was jealous and possive, and very controlling. I was young and stiupid and I thout those things were just because he loved me so much. I come from a family of independant womem, and it was like oil and water. I had to fight for every thing .I still think highly of this man. He was a father to our sons and he was involved in all their activities and shool stuff. He has suffered greatly loosing both of his sons. I am very worried about him, and always will . You can\'t live with and have kids with a man that long, and not care about him. My presenty husband knows this and it has never been a problem. You will do the right thing when you are ready and when it is time. I hope you can find happiness. I did and I found my soul mate and I foud the man I dreamed of. I have been married to him for 20 years. I am just sorry I was not smart and brave enough to get out sooner. Love Peggy
Well written my dear! I am so sorry that you had to go through those changes, but HURRAY for YOU for being strong enough to separate yourself from all of the negative in your life. I love you and will always be here if you need me. You\'re the best and good luck sweetie!!! You\'re strong now! Launie xoxoxo
