November 12, 2006 Well today is the day One-Year Anniversary smoke-cigarette-free. I never thought I would get through the day. I never thought I could do it. I wanted it so bad but I never thought I could stay stopped. Not having a cigarette can be terrifying. As I write I am listening to Peter Jennings' wife on the radio - she is talking about her book about her husband who died of Lung Cancer - he picked up again on 911 after many-many years of being smoke-free. Is this my higher-power telling me somthin - on this day - at this moment - he was a Canadian/Swede - my heritage - is it coincidence? Interesting - Ok good for me.Now I am retired and need to get healthy - lose weight. I gained 50 lbs in one year. I was thinking of having a surgerical medical intervention - I would need a guarantee and there are none. It still is an inside job for me. And I love spagetti - my carb of choice. I remember hearing once - that an alcoholic can put the cap on the bottle - smokers are not born with a cigarette in there mouth - People still need to eat - thus - The Wisdom to Know the Difference. Well for today - I got on the scale and I did not smoke. I am very grateful for what I have.Ree
