At 70, I'm trying to start writing in a journal. It has been said that writing down feelings helps one to even out the good, bad, and ugly aspects of daily life. I try hard to keep in control of most factors of my existence. But the effort doesn't do much to avoid the things that can/do go wrong - that disappoint and enrage me.
So I want to start getting past the things over which I have no control that blow up, or fail to satisfy, or aggravate. None of it is worth having a stroke over. That would be where I am heading if I don't learn to make the rage go away. There has to be a way to do this without compromising or just giving in to poor behavior and treatment by others toward me.
2 "employees" of a company I hired showed up to power wash sidewalks and fences. They left twice as much work for me just to "recover" from their work. I am furious and I'm going to make myself very clear to the owner when we meet again. This diary entry will, hopefully, calm me down enough to be rational when my time to vent comes. It's a start.

Well, here I am, in the least favorite quarter of the year. I simply cannot bear the crass commercialism, the fake joy and the dragging out of dubious religious traditions. I would like to take a bite of the apple and sleep in a coma until after January 1st. I don\'t feel particularly depressed; I\'m just \"blowing\" time until it\'s all over. My niece put her Christmas tree up the week after Halloween, for Pete\'s sake. The following week, she posted a picture of her 3 children with Santa on FB. I know I\'m old and cranky. But seriously?
