One year
This weekend, my husband and I revisited the place my miscarriage started last year. When I miscarried, I was 4 hours south of our home at a conference with a bunch of strangers. He was on the other coast, doing some work for his dad. We only had 48 hours of knowing for sure we were pregnant before the bleeding started. I wrote this poem about the ceremony we held for our child
Albion, Jan 25
The sun came to witness, but the clouds dared not appear
They knew they were not welcome at the rite of one so dear
The moon also showed her face, but she hid her beauty, pale
Over three-quarters of her smile, she wore a mourning veil
Ducks swam in the water, a salmon flashed his fins
Two seals were in attendance; they lifted out their chins
On the blue-green water, quiet over the bay
A cloud of ash and two pink flowers slowly floated away.
