Today is day 49, 7 weeks.
I'm consistently going to the forest with the dog on Sunday. This morning instead of taking the longer trail to the lake, I took the uphill short route. 49 days ago I couldn't have taken this route. Going up, at least for a bit of it, I felt that short fast ground eating hiker step I used to have. That was nice. I forgot my wallet so I couldn't stop and get a donut, a dog bone and a newspaper afterward. It was still good. This meets my goal of regular exercise today.
On my way back from the lake, my mind turned to stopping on the way home for alcohol. My mind: you could stop at the liquor store on the way home. The liquor store's not open. You could wait until it's open. I don't have my wallet. You could go home get your wallet and then drive back in. I don't want to do that. This almost daily conversation is hard. I hope as each day passes it's less. And I guess if I do look back to week 1, this is so much less, not so white knuckle, not so heart breaking in its painfulness. I have made progress. Mark it.
I achieved my goal to hike the peak on day 44. I'm trying to think of a new goal, and what's come to mind so far is hiking each of the trails to top of the peak. I did the Northridge trail, but there is the east ridge, the camp trail and two others....one that is right from the base. The last one is the hardest one. I'm not sure if this will be the goal, but it's an idea. I'm continuing to brainstorm.
Today or tomorrow I will start my lifting. Today is my Saturday. I have many chores to do and a nap would be wonderful. Today is day 49. I am committed to making a life change. I do not drink. I am the tree, not the leaves. I am the mountain. It is day 49 and I am solid.
