General Update
I am so excited. I got my 11 yr. AA chip last night. Our group, it's sad to say, is dropping in attendance. Out of 7 people who were to receive chips last night, I was the only one there to get mine. Plus I had a friend of mine call me today and ask if she could come over. She had a hangover and was crying. She had been drinking and gambling the night before and was in trouble. I just had a friend of mine in AA move into my area. I talked to her for a bit and even did the first 3 steps with her. I told her we'd go over and talk to "Jane". Well, after we all talked together and Jane and I shared our experience, strength, and hope with her, she decides to ask Jane to be her sponsor. She had asked me earlier who can sponsor another person. I told her anyone with at least a year of recovery. (I just got my 11 yr. chip, o.k?) I did not mention that I could sponsor her. I figure that is for her to decide for herself. It kind of hurt my feelings. I'd never been a sponsor before. I had people ask me, but their so-called clean time didn't even last a second. Maybe I'm not meant to be a sponsor. And I think some newcomers believe they have to have a sponsor with 20 or more yrs. of recovery. I don't know. There is a saying in AA and I don't know exactly how it goes. Something like: "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Or: "When the teacher is ready, the student will appear." I think it's the last sentence. How can I figure out other people. I can barely figure out myself half of the time. And I know what I want to say most of the time, I'm just not that good at explaining things. I used to be able to explain things and speak with intelligence. Now? OMG! I sound like an idiot most of the time. But I helped her as much as I could. Maybe she will stay this time. I can only pray for her and be there for her if she needs someone to talk to.

Pooh83 It is the latter sentence. Your time will come when it gets here. You sound like you have a lot to offer as a sponsor.
I got sober in a recovery house and there were a band of us drunks getting to know this new life. We hung out with each other doin this an that . I was sure we would all be sober for the ret of our lives.Things just couldnt have been any better. As the years went by we would make it a point to always go back to that recovery home to take our chips. Each year the numbers would dwindle. I would like to think everyone just moved out of the area or life just got busy. Statistically that probably isnt the case. Up until 3 years ago there would be 3 of us with 20 + years and I thought that was great. Lately I have been the only one. We are just getting older and I hope everyone is still alive. I\'m pretty sure the 3 are still sober. Just keep in mind, our job is to be there for the alcoholic that still suffers. About all we can do is pray for the ones that have gone down their own paths and be content that no matter what God will be there for all of us.
You need a smiley face.
