Stopping to Smell the Flowers Along the Way
Well today I decided that I was going to run my errands WALKING. At 3 bucks a gallon - and it being an absolute beautiful day - and the fact that I could use the exercise LOL - I decided to venture out and get the things I needed done via my legs!
I walked close to 4 miles today. Started out on my journey - and took all the sights and sounds in. The warmth of the sun was so inviting as I set foot. It was a great opportunity to take time and listen to my thoughts without interruption. As I walked I saw folks coming out of their homes getting their mail from their boxes - chatting with one another. Life is anew. Spring has allowed us to come out of our caves - and as I walked and smiled and said my hellos along the way - I noticed that others were sharing the "fever". People were biking - some walking with their child in their strollers, etc.
As I made it into town I hit the post office. Chatted with my friendly postman - who's always smiling. Talked about the Red Sox, boating and how he was going to be trout fishing this weekend. I gave him my bills that needed to go out - wished him well - and set off to my next stop - which was the grocery store. Not the major supermarket, but a small mom and pop grocery store. There I saw the familiar faces I see on a regular basis. Went to the meat dept. chatted with my friendly butcher Tom. He asked me how the market was fairing - gave him my two cents on it - made a few cracks - grabbed my steaks (which I can't wait to have!)that I'm cooking on the grill tonight - along with a few other necessities and made my way back towards home.
As I walked I continued to take in my surroundings. I crossed the little bridge that overlooks the three rivers that connect into one. Saw the birds overhead that were busy on a mission trying to build their nest on the lamp posts. Noticed the beautiful flowers along the way, the tulips, daffodils, etc. Even the dandilions looked beautiful against the fresh green grass. As I walked I saw so many beutiful things that I wouldn't have - had I been in my car. There was a beautiful rhododendrum bush - vibrant purple in color - that I stopped to admire.
I stopped at my local garden center - inquired about patio tomatoes (too early :( ) and browsed at the array of flowers they had to offer - and determined what I will plant in my flower pots/boxes this year. Last year I didn't plant any flowers, and I regretted it. Two years ago I had a big garden with a variety of veggies - and great big pumpkin patch. The kids loved it. I'm not feeling that motivated to do a huge garden, but I'm thinking of planting some lettuce and tomatoes in flower boxes on my deck. Along with some herbs and flowers.
I'm going to try and incorporate doing some of my errands via walking. Not only will it save me gas and get my butt moving - but it will also allow me to stop and smell the flowers along the way.

That sounds so peaceful, and spiritual. Those are the moments, and the feelings that let me know god is around, enjoying my time with me. You write really well! I felt as if I were there with you. It brought me back to my FAVORITE show when I was young. I soooo wanted to live in the world of this show, compared to my HELL for children childhood. Anyway the show is \"Little House on the Prairie\"!!!! That is what your writing reminded me of. Little laura Ingalls, headed into town in her little dress, to share love and good tidings!!!! And Michael Landon.....what a daddy!!!! I felt like my father died when he died!!! Did u ever watch that? So peaceful. But I came from AC/DC, Hellis for Children!!!! Which is good, because it gives me the desire and strength to live my life as Laura Ingalls!!!! Thanks Lisa, for your inspiration. You are so deserving of warmth, kindness and love. And you will find it! Some man, out there, doesn\'t even know how lucky he\'ll be to have YOU in his life someday!!!!! Im glad you are in mine!!!!
