Today I was really frustrated.  I was playing with one of my little cousins age 5 and we had a dispute about her minding me.  She told me clearly that she did not think that I had any right to tell her what to do.  Later this was cleared up with her mom, but I felt really offended and angry.  I guess it's confusing for her because I seem more like a friend or playmate (eventhough I'm in my mid 30's) than an adult most of the time, but if I am the only adult with her and she starts to do something that feels dangerous to me and I tell her she needs to stop, then she needs to stop.  I guess I'll have to set some clear rules when I'm the only adult with her so that she understands what's important to me and there isn't confusion.  I am not used to having to be responsible that way either, so it's hard for me to figure out exactly what to do.  So this caused me to feel really agitated and angry and I have a hard time dealing with those feelings.  They are still lingering eventhough the incident happened around 4 hours ago.  I felt good about the talk with her mom.  She told me clearly that if my cousin is not minding me outside, I can take her into the house directly, so that she understands that I mean business.  This was really stressful for me.  I just hate conflict and I adore my little cousin and it felt terrible to me to be angry at her and to feel that she was disrespecting me.  I guess that next time hopefully I can avoid all of this by making it really clear what I do not want her to do when she's with me or where I do not want her to go right at the beginning when I get there so that she understands clearly what I expect from her.
