Good day, I've had a tough time with flare ups the last couple of months. I've been suffering from HS since my daughter was born in 2007, but was only diagnosed in 2010. I used Roaccutane in 2010 for 10 months and it seemed to improve a bit, but after stopping the treatment everything was back to normal. The dermatologist suggested radiation treatment which "could" help on the affected areas but there was no guarantees. The therapy was very expensive and after paying for the Roaccutane in cash (Medical insurance did not cover - stating that it was "cosmetic" at my age. ) I did not have the money to pay for the radiation, and with no guarantees I was not motivated to spend any more money on something that won't work.
I've been trying to control the outbreaks with antibiotics - which does help for a while, but after that I go through painfull flare ups while waiting for the new course to kick in. Our GP is a very understanding lady and I receive a lot of support from her, but like me she is at her wits end with trying to control the outbreaks.
My baby boy was born in October 2013 and it seems that I haven't sat comfortobly since then as I now have breakouts on my buttocks as well - apart from the groin and stomach area. I have a very understanding husband, but I can assure you that NO MAN will stay patient without "attention" for 6 months.. I've been struggling with an open wound on my left upper thigh for the past 6 weeks and are getting worried as it seems to heal and the moment I stop closing it with band aids it seems that it just opens up again and every time it is more painfull. I decided to try and get some answers today and started googling dermatologists in our area who specialises in the condition, but nada. Im from SA and it seems that there is very little knowledge of the condition.
Are there any other South Africans on this forum that can maybe direct me to somebody in the Pretoria/Johannesburg area with more knowledge on the condition.
I'm realy exited about the support group and have been throug all the advice and info given. At least I can relate to someone now and not feel like I'm alone with this. I'm still new and trying to figure out how this works though..
