rut

I wanted to write about this because I know there are others who experience the same thing and I am looking for some feedback to see what you do about it.
I get in these ruts where I don't want to do anything. I just want to stay inside, sit in my chair and feel depressed.  I use to think that is the way I was suppose to feel because during those times I often pick up my guitar and play depressing music. I don't mean to brag but it sounds very good.
I am very lax at doing things around the house, not that I love living in a pigpen, I just can't find the motivation to clean. Still a few inches of snow on the ground which I have been trudging though.  My brain is telling me to relax, take it easy and wait till spring and it will melt.
I have work that I could do to make money but I am even lazy doing that.  Paperwork, I am always putting off until tomorrow and we all know that tomorrow never comes when we keep putting it off.
It's a good thing my ex isn't here to see how I rearranged the furniture to make things more convenient for me, like big chair in front of the tv, I don't have tv now, because it costs too much but I can plug the computer into the tv because I bought a subscription to Hulu, it was alot cheaper then direct tv, however, I miss my Celtics basketball games which I cannot find anywhere. Hulu doesn't have them. If they were losing alot, I wouldn't feel bad but they are winning alot lately.
Just writing this gave me a small burst of energy. I have a few emails to write, one package to label and then a trip to the PO before they close at noon.
Any comments, good or bad, appreciated! I can take constructive criticism.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Dont feel about it! We all have lazy days. You deserve it. If you feel depressed, do something different. Get out of your chair, dress nice and eat in a nice restaurant and then go to a nice bar. Or treat yourself to comfort food all day. Life\'s good Bob :)

i am sure there are way too many here that have those rut days.. I wish mine were a day here and there.. in reading your post, I sense that is not the case for you either.. Motivation to do things can be very hard, then when we dont, we are our own worst critic, which makes us feel worse.. vicious cycle.. I will follow this, as I am curious to see the comments.. I too will welcome some relief..

Hun, that sounds like depression. Lack of motivation is a common symptom of depression. I know for me one of the signs I\'m depressed is that my apartment just gets messier and messier because I\'ll set things on the floor, promise myself to put it away later, and never have the energy to put it away. You might check out the depression forum here to see if anyone has any ideas about pulling out of depression. It also might be time to your doctor. I think I remember you used to be on antidepressants (not sure)? Depending on how bad this \"rut\" is, and especially if it\'s interfering with work, it may be time to talk to the doc about meds again. Or seek out a therapist to help you work through it. I know money can be an issue for some people, but there are a lot of therapists who work on a sliding scale. I know how badly depression sucks. Hang in there. This will pass, remember that. As I keep getting reminded \"it\'s only temporary\" I know it doesn\'t feel that way NOW, but i promise you it is. Please keep me in the loop as best you can. I love you.

I know I can relate.I am over sensitive about some things. It does not help any with feeling down.I love to live in my own lil world but thats not realistic.I have to force myself out of the house its a struggle,Especially when its damp and cold out. Then again any excuse will due at times.

\"Seasonal Affective Disorder\"..I am going through that also. Not usual for me because NORMALLY we have a lot of sun in the winter, but this year has been cloudy, rain, sun and all around who-knows-what-weather.
Low Vitamin D levels will cause depression along with low Vitamin B12.
I feel really good while out in the sun DAILY. Just wish Spring would hurry up and arrive. I have Vitamin D3 pills, but sometimes I forget to take them and I also have Vitamin B12 sublingual pills which works if I remember to take them....lol.....The difference between natural and prescription drugs is that natural has to be consistent ...and it takes longer to feel the effect, but will not be toxic to the body like scripts. but prescriptions well, we all know about them...

Hey Bob,
I know this is going to sound annoying but sometimes it helps. My fiance is the queen of making lists. Personally, I kind of hate them but do see their usefulness. What I find even more useful, but extemely difficult, is to think of the thing (even if it\'s just on a mental list) that you LEAST want to, but should, do at the moment. As the NIKE commercial used to say...Just do it! It feels SO f\'n good after your done and after that, those depressing guitar lines are going to sound that much sweeter. Sometime I won\'t let myself pick up my guitar until I\'ve done SOMETHING on the annoying should do list :-)

It\'s sort of a vicious circle. You don\'t clean or do your projects because your depressed and lazy feeling - then you get more depressed and it feels overwhelming because it\'s starting to pile up. Round and round we go. What you need to do is break the cycle.

Do one big project a day until they are all done - next week is daylight savings time so we are changing the clocks, therefore it\'s a good change lighter later. You\'ll find you\'ll have more energy once the weather breaks and you can get out in some of this sunshine for a while!

I do this to myself to. I eventually get to the point that I force myself to do something!
