Thinking
When I was younger I use to think about the future and with big plans but getting married ended most of them. The only accomplishment I had and one which I am still very proud of, was in finishing the Boston 100th marathon back in april of 1996. It took me about 20 years and 2 previous attempts to achieve that goal.
I went down to Boston with a friend and coworker, he finished ahead of me but we both made it. Every april on the anniversary of that historic event, (well historic in our world anyway :), we try to be the first to call each other on the tele and remmenis about that fateful day! It was quite something to, say the least.
Took me 3 months to recover. But I stopped running, developed arthritis in my spine and after that running became a painful experience but I still try to jog at least a few miles each day to stay healthy and to keep my weight in check. Ibprofen works great on arthritis.
I don't think there will be another marathon in my lifetime but just thinking about it gets me all excited! I am not a fast runner, I have flat feet but I have alot of stamina and tenacity. It gives me peace of mind to be alone and hear myself breathing. A doctor once told me that running is meditation! I believe that! Much of the time I pray but sometimes I just listen to the breeze.

Cool.
A long time friend of mine from back in high school and college ran Boston 4 or 5 times. I think he eventually broke 3 hrs - something like 2:55. I remember the first time he qualified. I was going to try to qualify with him but I couldn\'t keep my training going due to work travel so I didn\'t make it.
I did go out and watch him run his first Boston, and I was at the 16 mile mark to give him a water bottle right before Heartbreak Hill. I ended up jogging with him for a while since it was unseasonably hot that year (it was tough on all the runners). Well, I kept running with him and said I\'d stay with him as long as he needed. I ended up running the last 10 miles with him! It was fun but I did it kind of cold turkey so I think I was as sore as he was the next day. I remember limping around Boston the next day with our wives doing touristy stuff - it was a fun trip.
Very cool that you have those great memories!
Bob, have you ever seen the movie \"Run Fat Boy Run\" ? I really got a kick out of it. It\'s a comedy but with a lesson about endurance & love, focused around a marathon. Cool movie
What a great memory! And what a huge accomplishment!
Congratulations, that is quite an achievement. I only know one person who\'s ever done the Boston marathon and I live in Massachusetts, haha!
That was a wonderful accomplishment and certainly something worth savoring. Jogging/fast walking (easier on your bones) IS \"meditation\". Whenever I used the treadmill (used to fast walk 2 miles a day in 25 minutes, don\'t do it any more) I would pray and meditate on world peace. Anyway, Bob, allow me to say this: our \"achievements\" in this world aren\'t material. It isn\'t what you do, but how you do it and what you learn from it; it isn\'t what you own, it\'s how you use what you own; and, most importantly, it isn\'t about fulling our desires it is about our relationship with God and fulfilling our purpose. That purpose can be as simple as praying for others or as difficult and complex as taking our pain, physical, emotional and psychological, and joining it to the cross. Taking up our cross to follow Him is used by God to turn souls toward Him. Keep up your good work.

Great personal story. Thanks for sharing it.I love walking.Despite my bodies reaction to it.I believe it helps to clear my head.Plus makes me so tired that I don\'t care about the things that were bugging me.
