6 months is approaching......

It's been almost 6 months since you called to tell me you were in rehab, yet once again.
I was apprehensive as always, you've been there how many times now?
Then you told me you died, you od'd, it took 30+ minutes, 5 hits of narcan and paddles to get you back, but those angels worked hard to make sure you made it and you did, yet you went into the ER, left and used YET AGAIN.  But something took over during your sleep, you said you had a dream, woke up, called out and got a ride to rehab, left the GF behind and got yourself back to the rehab.
Even your counselor noticed a change in your attitude.  You were in it to win it!
Fast forward, your GF is in rehab thanks to your help, you've been clean and actually ENJOYING being sober.  You have a baby boy on the way and excited about it.  You have a good job, a car you paid CASH for and fixing it up.  NOW you are apartment hunting.
You're one of the lucky ones, you have SO much to live for now.
Yes, I still am apprehensive, but as YOU said, you programmed me to feel these feelings.  It's my defensive mechanism I've come to rely on to get me through, sanely.  You understand that.
As I talk to you, it amazes me the man you are right now, so understanding, so thoughtful.
In my mind, I'm hopeful that one day, after you celebrate your YEAR sobriety, you opt to pay it forward, that you work with the rehab that worked SO HARD for YOU, to show you the way to the path your on.  You would make an EXCELLENT counselor, to help someone else survive and come out of the rabbit hole themselves.  You've already started, with the GF, you found a way to get her on insurance to pay for the rehab she is in.  YOU helped her.  She is now 3 months clean.
I thank God everyday.  Your healthy, no ill effects from being dead for so long.  Matter of fact, alot clearer than you have been in 6+ years.  Your baby is healthy.  Your GF is healthy.  It's a miracle, if you ask me!
I hope every morning you wake up you give thanks for all you have.  I DO!  I am thankful to have YOU!
Love you bunches!

What a wonderful story, you should be sooooo proud. I pray to God that one day I can say the same! My daughter is on her way, she has been in a Christian Ministry for the last 3 months. I finally see the light at the end of that long tunnel, but as you said I will always be apprehensive. Enjoy your grandbaby and I wish you all good luck.
Hugs,
Pat
