Update...
It's been a while since I updated the site on Lucas, though it's not due to the lack of progress. Lucas' continues to 'wow' his docs/therapists with accomplishments. He was in the pool just about every day possible this past summer, pedaling his bike w/ training wheels, pedal tractor, big wheel and found 'he' found his fold up scooter the other day in the garage attic (climbed up the ladder to see what Daddy was doing; I was watching from the driveway, he was very careful and made each climb 'with purpose'. It's not clear, yet, if he's going to go back to hockey, mainly due to the fact that he can go to the YMCA to swim any time when not in school AND he/sister attended their 2nd 'self defense' class on last night (Tues., Sept. 29). They both LOVE the class, Mr. Rex the instructor and all the red, brown and black belts who help out the 5-9 yr old class. I have been quite impressed w/ both their enthusiasm and excitement after both classes than when they go in; seems to energize their evenings. Though, when 8:30pm arrives, they are both ready for bed; unusual for Amber, though we're thankful for no more arguments to 'just go to bed' conversations. Also, on Monday, Lucas was fitted for what should be his "last" night brace made and fitted by DynaSplint (Cleveland, OH office, though based in Maryland). This fits him today AND will expand up to fit Daddy (6'5" tall), as needed. This will continually stretch his heel cord while sleeping due to a spring that can have the tension adjusted when needed, AND he can stretch out his foot (pointed toe), if it's uncomfy, though when he falls back to sleep, it will continue to stretch, again. We are easing into wearing it, though Mon 1 hr, Tues 3.5 hr (heard him pull off the velcro). Also, his OT/PT are most impressed w/ him being limber, lately; I've been helping/encouraging him to do full body twisting stretches before he gets out of bed each morning. Heck...if it helps me, why not him? His legs are measuring MUCH closer to 'normal' than ever before w/ just this few seconds of stretching 1st thing in the morning. I will update another day. Please write, if there's anything I can share to help another person with what we have done with Lucas.
