I am an adult “survivor” of molestation by my father. It has been more than thirty years since my father was convicted of his crime. I joined this group for two reasons. One, I wanted to help in any way I can to answer questions anyone might have about my experience. I felt it might be both helpful and hopeful to see an adult that has surpassed this time in their life and is living life. I don’t claim to be unaffected I truly don’t believe that is possible I have a lot of remaining scars physically and emotionally but I am making it. Some things that have transpired lately made me realize that I would like to reach out to people and help them as much as I can. Who better to answer questions than someone who has been there? I will be as frank and honest as I can.
The second reason I joined this group is I am genuinely curious about the healing progress of others. I would like to know how well re-unification is working for those who are trying it. I vow that any information I learn through this group would never be used in any way without the permission of the person I was asking.
The thing is my mother told me that she had intended to stay with my abuser and it had fallen through. I told her I feel like it was for the best as far as I was concerned. I feel that in my case reuniting with my father and being forced to interact with him would have been detrimental to my mental health. I don’t feel that I would be half as well as I am now had they stayed together. I am genuinely curious what others have been through in regards to re-unification.
