catching up
As most of you know my family has a new pup!!! Her name is Molly and she is a golden retriever. We were not planning on getting a puppy right away and we really wanted to rescue a dog from our local shelter but a girl my hubby works with told him they just had 11 puppies showed him pics he forwarded and you know what happened from there. She is a cutie and seems very smart. She came with ringworm so it is hard because we have to wash hands constantly and she can't be around other dogs (highly contagious) so she is not socializing. Her only experience with other dogs has been our neighbors dog who barks like crazy and wants to bite her head off, and my brothers huge lab that loves her so much he could easily smoosh her. I have not been subbing much because of her but I figure she is sleeping so much that I can get back into it here for awhile. In my last journal I wrote about feeling much better after being off of the meds, but unfortunately my eye sight has not improved. It did get a little better from when I first lost it but I still have a hazy blob in front of my left eye. I have gotten used to it but still find it difficult to drive at night or in the rain, heavy traffic, etc.
My hubby has been having some bad symptoms and we had to make a trip to the ER last weekend. We still don't have a diagnosis yet but he will be having a colonoscopy (sp) in a week and hopefully will get some answers. Possibilities are an infection (which is what we hope) Chrohns disease, ulcerative colitis or even cancer (which we hope it isn't). He has always been so strong and healthy that it is very hard to see him down.
My youngest son has bronchitis, we had no idea!!! He has been coughing since school started, but that happens every year. I started having him do treatments with his nebulizer (he has asthma) and he seemed like he was getting better. We went to docs because we were going to see if he could go off his meds but with the cough I figured not... She listened to his lungs and said she was surprised they sounded so bad. He has not missed a day of school or complained of not feeling well at all. He is now on steroids, antibiotics and has to do inhaler or nebulizer every 4 hrs. and back to doing his other meds twice a day. She said it may take a few more years but hopefully he will outgrow this!!!
My Aunt has had a little comeback. When they first got back here from Florida we all thought she would not make it a week. She did not eat for two full weeks and was barely awake for 4 weeks. I don't know if it was the chemo and radiation or what but she is awake all of the time now back to eating and talking non-stop. She stopped all treatments and I think they are out of her system now and she is awake. She is very weak and it is hard getting her out of bed, but she seems like a new woman. She does not make much sense, I imagine it is from having tumors on the brain they must affect all sorts of things. Her daughter has been coming up here to visit (about 5 hrs away) she is battling lung cancer herself and it is rough on her. The cancer is in her left lung and they have already taken the lower half and they need to take the rest but her heart was not strong enough so she has been doing strong chemo and will have surgery again in January. She is very afraid because she already went through it once and it was tough and this will be even harder because the heart is right there on top of lung. If you are going to get lung cancer get it in the right lung!!! She used to smoke and quit about 2 years ago because they saw something on her lung. Instead of following up she ignored it until she was coughing bad and out of breath a lot. Lessons: If you smoke quit now!!! Don't ignore medical advice!!! If she had called back her doctor and followed up this would have been much smaller and easier to deal with.
It has been very cool here after our long hot summer. (not long enough) I love fall but I am not ready for winter. I bought a bunch of new bushes for out front of our house, hubby was supposed to help planting this weekend and then he got sick so I may have to go out and try and do them myself. There are still some old bushes there that need to come out (old, don't flower anymore, look half dead) I want them out roots and all, hubby thinks just cut them off but then I can't replant. I also have a couple that still look good but they are so big they will look funny with the new smaller bushes so I don't know what to do. Suggestions. Even the half dead non-flowering ones will probably be tough to get completely out without some heavy equipment or some big guns!!!
Miss all of my friends here and I do try and check in on all of you occasionally. Maybe I will get my letter out to Oprah soon to get us all together for a smoke-free meeting!!!
