Day 4
Day 4 sober and feeling strong and optimistic. Day 2 (Tuesday) seemed to reinforce the thought that my life cannot go on the way it did before. My husband who is very angry with me for something I had done the last time I was blacked out (and has good reason to be) had told me he was not quitting drinking since he didn't have a problem which I totally agree with. He texted me that day and said that he only wants to drink at special occasions or maybe when we go out to dinner to help me out. Which made me very happy because it would help a lot if he wasn't drinking at home. That night we decided to go out to eat. It was 5pm on a Tuesday night at a family restaurant filled with people and their kids. We were seated with our two little guys at a booth near the bar. I was so excited to NOT order a drink that I didn't even have any cravings, I always felt weird drinking with kids at the table but I always did it anyways. My husband didn't order a drink either which made me feel so supported. Right then a woman probably in her 50's was sitting in a booth by herself with an empty glass of wine in front of her. She suddenly stood up and yelled at the bartender "I want to cash out and I need an emergency vehicle immediately!" We all looked like what's wrong, does she have something wrong with her? A manager walked up and asked her what was going on and she said "They told me they won't get me a cab over here now and I can't drive so get me an emergency vehicle NOW!" she was yelling at the top of her lungs obvious to me, drunk. The bartender called and handed her the phone and then she was yelling at the dispatcher. I thought oh man either the restaurant will get in trouble for over serving her or most likely she came in drunk and they didn't know so now she is going to get herself in trouble. An ambulance came and she demanded change from her bill at which the manager said there is no change and then he gave a look to another customer and said "she actually didn't even give me enough." She gathered her stuff and walked out with the poor paramedics who now had to deal with her. They cleaned up her table and the manager reached under the table and there was a bottle of wine that was almost finished that she had obviously brought in and was secretly filling her glass. And who knows how many bottles she had before she even got there. Everyone in the room who doesn't have an alcohol problem was probably like how could she possibly do that? I understand, and I looked at my husband and said "that would have been me in twenty years for sure if I don't stop"
