Woke up today and throat was better, but breathing is a bit labored. I feel heaviness in my chest. Am coughing all of the time! Sounds bronchial. Called the PA I saw yesterday and left a message. Her nurse called back and told me that when I was seen I was just in the 'beginning' of the virus/infection and that I needed to give the medication time to work. O.K. I'll do that, but my gut feeling is that I need something stronger. She did order prednisone for me, which I asked for--has helped me in the past with breathing--but doesn't seem to be phasing me this time. I don't know why.

I took Jack to the clinic today--he hasn't quit coughing since he was sick--over a month ago. His doctor did a chest xray and discovered that he probably has walking pneumonia. Glad I took him in, but truth be told, I think he feels about five times better than I do!

Did get some errands done--should have slept, but was waiting for the clinic to call back and had to take Jack in. Washed some clothes and hung out on the clothesline--oh, do they smell so wonderful when I take them down!

Even washing and hanging clothes is a big effort and takes all of my energy.

Was able to correct a few papers, but my eyes don't want to focus well, so gave it up. I have been seeing larger things that probably aren't even there. Last night, I drove into the garage, parked my van, and got out. As I came around the front of the van, I nearly screamed as I thought that I saw a large, round furry object run by (out of the corner of my eye). I have been startled like this a few times since getting ill. So perhaps when one gets ill on top of MS, certain symptoms are exacerbated? It's so strange, seeing things out of the corner of an eye, moving, but in all probability, not even there! To explain this to someone who hasn't experienced this is not necessarily a good idea as they look at you like you are completely losing it! lol

Back to school tomorrow. Two days at home was very helpful and I could really use tomorrow at home as well, but I really can't think of anything for my students to do at this point in time that would be beneficial and educational. I dislike 'busy' work with a passion. It's a waste of their time when they could be doing something much more meaningful. If only we had subs that could come in and teach our content area! Then it would not be such a problem to have a sub.

Prom. I haven't ever really liked it and like it even less after today!!!! The secretary called and said that a student had to do her presentation 'today' because she would be gone tomorrow and needed the points so that her grade would be passing again. Since Friday is the cutoff, but she won't be there, she needed to do the presentation TODAY. And I am supposed to do what? Go up to the school to listen to one presentation? How frustrating! I could scream. Do teachers ever get a break? Sorry, I'm just a tad upset.

As if the call from the school wasn't enough, I went to a convenience store after taking Jack to the clinic. I was so thirsty and I needed something to drink. I wrote my check and gave it to the clerk. She looked at my check and then said, "Oh, YOUR'RE MRS. _____!" I had no clue why she said this. Then she said, "My son, _____, just called me and told me he was inelgible to go to prom." Of course, memory was horrid today, and I truly had no clue who she was talking about, since I have a couple of students by that name. I felt pretty dumb. So I asked her his last name. I told her that I had allowed her son to make up his speech late (held a special evening time for 7 kids to do this). She just looked at me. Then I said something to the effect that I would be at school tomorrow and he would have the opportunity to raise his grade. I then said something about not feeling well and was just at the clinic (like I had to justify not being in school). She said that I didn't lookk too well. Aargh! Why is it ME that feels guilty about the student who can't go to Prom because he or she is failing my class? My class is not difficult to pass if any kind of effort, preparation, and practice are employed. Why do kids wait until the last minute? Why do I keep taking THEIR burdens? Aargh again! and again! Can you tell that I really dislike Prom and am totally frustrated by it?

Another thing about Prom I detest is the money that is spent on it! Unbelievable. Some mothers really get 'into it' and it almost turns into what I can only describe as a 'small wedding'! I've heard from two other parents regarding their children's grades in my class and BOTH (and one is a C0-Worker to boot)gave me the song and dance about their poor ______, and how he/she would not be able to go to prom and how he/she had already spent so much money. Like it's my fault! I have given kids every opportunity to pass. Taking late work, making time in the evening to listen to late speeches, being available for help (even had one student come over for help last Sunday afternoon); Aargh, again!

Tomorrow is Friday! Yay! I just hope that I feel better. I'd better get to bed so that I will!

Wow Michelle!!! Talk about work overload! I do feel for you, & being sick ontop of everything! AARGH is right!! Don\'t feel guilty about prom, you sound extremely fair! It\'s the students responsibilty to do the work, their choice! Your cough does sound bronchial, be careful. I don\'t think I\'d like seeing furry creatures, sounds like you need a good rest girlfriend!!! I hope you have a good weekend, good luck tomorrow. Love ya, Peg
