Stuck for words
I was helping my 13yr old niece with her homework the other day. Bless her, my sister's grasp of mathematics extends to checking she's given the right change when shopping, so Uncle Rob gets a call every now & then when maths homework is proving troublesome. Rather than just giving her the answers I coaxed her into thinking so she can arrive at the correct answers herself. After we'd finished, she looked at the completed paper and after a few moments exclaimed "Awesome!".
This morning I went out to Brighton for breakfast and to brave the crowds looking for a birthday present for one of my nephews. As I held the door open for someone at the mall, two youngsters walked by and I overheard one say to the other... "That's like totally awesome!".
Ok where did I lose the plot again? Is it because I don't have kids of my own to keep me on my toes?! When I was a kid the Big Bang would have been awesome. If little green men had landed in my back garden, that would have been awesome! If I managed to finish my homework on time it would just have been cool. Now if I see something that blows me away I don't have a way to adequately describe it, because awesome isn't really awesome any more. So if I see the most beautiful sky I've ever laid eyes on this evening, just maybe I'll call it...
