A painless poke in the eye!

I got a reminder letter to book an eye exam and have my diabetic retinopathy done, and just 2 days later I was in the little room crammed with all manner of evil looking gadgets that I really didnh't want anywhere near my eyes. Talk about letting yourself in for it!  

One of the most frustrating aspects of the diabetes has been the almost daily changes in my short distance vision, this is 'reading a novel' distance. Some days it's fine, other days I just can't make out the words, and the solution has been to get a pair of +1.00 reading specs from the chemist. I went for the old half-moon ones to make me look distinguished! Well, they help me read but they do nothing for me in the distinguished stakes!

All the tests were fine and the retinopathy came up clean, so that's me set for another year. However, I did manage to forget that they dilate your pupils for the retinopathy and it takes an hour or more to wear off. This is after they've numbed your eyes for the glaucoma test! This means walking around a busy city afterwards on an overcast day with my eyes screwed up almost tight shut. I went into a coffee shop looking like the owner of the worlds worst hangover - wonderful, the girl took one look at me and suggested I sit in a quiet corner and she'd bring my order over to me. I felt it best not to try and explain.
