Today was my six monthly check-up with the diabetes specialist.

This is where the months of being so careful about what I eat, about the exercising and the testing all pays off. The figures won't lie and she knows better than anyone what they mean. She must hate telling people bad news, and must hate seeing this dreadful condition chewing away at peoples lives, so I owe it to her to give her an opportunity to see that all her lecturing and stern advice does sink in and that what she does really does make a difference.

pg_1866311427.jpgSo my HbA1c is now 6.0 while just two years ago it was 12.7...! I would have been sweet pickings for any passing vampire! Cholesterol is 5.0, down slightly on last time but with a bit more room for improvement. BP was a cool 128 over 78 that even The Fonz would have been proud of, and my kidney function (creatinine) was down from 114 to 77! The only anomaly was the urine test which revealed more sugar than last time but she said that in light of all the other good results we would just keep an eye on it for next time.

I'm keeping it under control as much as I can. My mind may be elsewhere, I may forget to tuck my shirt in or brush my hair, I forget to buy petrol for the car and sometimes when I sit down at the computer for 5 minutes it's an hour or two later when I stop.

But I'm focused on the diabetes.

It was a really good set of results for me, except for the one blip with the kidneys, and I\'m still aiming to do better next time =:o)
