I had a cortisone injection in my hand today.  I've had similar injections in my shoulders in the past, but today's procedure was an an 'interesting' experience. Firstly the needle has to be guided to just the right spot involving several seconds of moving it back & forth, left & right under the skin of my palm near my wrist.  It was a sensation that made me appreciate how uncomfortable a fish must feel when it gets caught on a hook!

Next there's the cortisone itself. Thick and white by the look of it, and I could see my palm swell as the surgeon pushed the plunger. Well I guess there's nowhere for it to go initially so it just sits under your skin making you feel like you're wearing a rubber glove with the palm filled with - well something the consistency of syrup! Of course being your palm you get to watch the whole thing in great detail, although the whole procedure took less than 30 seconds and I left with the customary tiny plaster covering the site. I always feel these tiny plasters they apply after some injection say "Hey, it's no big deal" while what you really want is a large blood-soaked bandage covering the entire limb that says "Whoa, that smarts but I'm not complaining"  =;o)

As the day wore on it has become quite sore but I'm told that should pass in a few days and I'll be back to doing hand-stands, playing the violin and working on a construction site! What an interesting life they think I must lead!
