How does it know?

Truth be known... I am not keen on taking drugs. Aside from being a bit of a wimp when it comes to swallowing pills (I gag on the smallest of tablets sometimes!), I have this perhaps mistaken idea that all these synthetic chemicals floating around my system must be confusing the hell out of my kidneys or whatever squishy bit of me it is that deals with such things.pg_870049679.jpg

At present, my hand feels like it's enclosed in some medieval knight's gauntlet... that's two sizes too small! But what makes this particular complaint 'fun' is that thanks to the doctor and the surgeon I have a choice of medications. So, shall it be Tylex today? Ah the joys of codeine. While it doesn't seem to stop the pain it makes me feel light-headed enough to not care quite so much about it. Then there's ibuprofen, your friendly NSAID (anti-inflammatory to you & me). It sure sounds like it should deal with the underlying cause. Or maybe I should treat myself to a helping of Dicoflex? A supposedly stronger NSAID anti-thingy pill that contains various unpronounceable chemicals. It helps with the aching but not the numbness and stinging. Then again, I could mix up a cocktail of all three and have a day wrapped in cotton-wool.

It's a funny thing this stinging & tingling feeling. If I run my fingers over a smooth surface, like a table for instance, it feels like there's sand on the surface I'm touching. Wierd! If I shut my eyes and concentrate hard enough will I imagine I'm back in my childhood, playing on a sandy beach?

But what really gets me with these anti-inflammatory drugs is - how do they know where to go in your body? Pop the pill...

Pill to brain, pill to brain, come in brain.
Brain here, what can I do for you?
Someone called for an anti-inflammatory. Where's the problem?
Oh yes, well I guess that'll be his hand today.
Ok, gotcha. Will let you know when I get there.
Thanks pill.

Right, I'm at his hand now. Sending soothing thoughts...
Mmmm, that's nice. Oh, did I mention he has a bit of a headache?
Headache? But that's miles away! OK, I'll see what I can do.

Oh and while you're up there, he's got a bit of a stiff neck too.
A stiff neck you say? Well I shouldn't really, but seeing as I'm in the area...

Oops, nearly forgot to mention his ego, think that's a bit inflamed too.
Hey c'mon, there's only so much a pill can do!

My pills get confused too they need an indian guide to keep them on track because they get down there and say What the Hell and try to escape out the back door. Yeah swallowing pills I usually roll em up in bread and hold my mouth closed and rub my throat to help them go down...hey it worked for my dog! I\'ll tell ya they gave me some giant horse pills in the hospital I asked them does a saddle come with this. No lie the nurses would come to my room to watch me swallow these things They never saw a human do it orally. I hope thing are good in the UK
