Oooh, that stings!
Over the past couple of weeks I have developed a numbness and stinging/tingling sensation in my right hand. It's really rather unpleasant and touching things, e.g. typing, doing the chores, etc. just aggravates it. I'm taking Tylex already which was prescribed for the aching since they removed the plaster, but it doesn't help with this tingling in the least, and as each day passes is seems to get worse.
Naturally my first thoughts turned to diabetic neuropathy, but, aside from the last couple of weeks my levels have been very well controlled - for at least the last 2 years, plus I don't have the sensation in my left hand or my feet. So I'm thinking that this must be related to the surgery on my hand and the physiotherapy I'm now having.
The physiotherapist is a very amusing lady who spends part of her day looking after horses and dogs and the other half doing physio treatments, so I'll bet she has some amusing comparisons between her animal and human clientelle. What's more I have never known anyone with a grip such as she has! When she squeezes your hand it's like someone has parked a truck on it!! The treatment involves ultrasound, cura-pulse (pulsed shortwave therapy), electro-acupuncture, massage and manipulation, which I have to supplement with strengthening and flexibility exercises in between sessions.
Maybe it's all this rigorous exercise that is causing the problem? Certainly I guess we take our hands for granted and the most dextrous thing we do is press the buttons on the remote or type at the PC. I'm now squeezing various physio-gadgets designed to strengthen the hand, on the hour every hour followed by 50 minutes rest. I'm hoping that all this activity is the cause, but I won't know for sure until I see the surgeon next week for a check up.

I got blessed with the neuropathy in my hands ,feet and the upper part of my leg after my bout with Sepsis.My blood sugar was way out of control. It feels like little explosions and like I am walking on a porcupine. Well the way that incision looks on your hand I\'m sure you have some kind of nerve ending problems.That pulse short wave therapy is great I had it on my back it felt really good on my back. Great picture too it brings out that inner feeling lol. I know about the typing thats why my messages usually are short and I type slow so I never IM or Chat online it takes me to long. Its good to hear from you stay in touch.
I love the expression \'blessed\', it\'s like diabetes introduces us to all these new sensations in life that we would otherwise have missed... LOL =;o) You\'re right about the incision, it\'s like a big zig-zag across my hand but I\'m hoping it\'s something that given time, will heal, and take this unpleasant stinging numbness with it. My brother is diabetic and has neuropathy in his feet but doesn\'t talk about it much (he\'s bit of a recluse) but it sounds horrible and if it\'s like how my hand feels now, but worse, I don\'t know how you cope long-term.
