It's only my hand that's stopping me from feeling 'Excellent' today. It feels like it's either on fire or my imaginary childhood friend is standing on it! I have another friend for now... introducing Mr.Tylex, he whispers calming things in my ear and about an hour later Mr.Burns and Mrs.Ache and their sons Stinging and Throbbing all keep quiet for a while, then the cycle repeats itself. I'm starting to get the hang of being left-handed, although controlling the mouse is still very erratic and typing has slowed 50% from two forefingers to just the left forefinger, but the dictation software is helping a lot! Most things around the house aren't too bad, they just take a little longer. For instance, pulling on your trousers then trying to tuck your shirt in, so the tell tale signs are there if you look at my state of dress - slip-on shoes (laces? no way), shirt or sweatshirt outside my trousers and nothing with buttons! However, there is one chore that's still managing to elude me and it's not because I'm male... Cleaning the dishes! Now I did show some presence of forethought and before the operation I bought a pack of paper plates. Ah ha... no washing up I thought. However, because they're so light and insubstatial you need a free hand to hold the plate while eating otherwise it merrily slides around the table while you clumsily try to prod your food with the fork in your one good hand. So I quickly gave that up and reverted to using the china, but you try doing the washing-up one handed. The trick seems to be to put everything in the sink, add the detergent and plenty of hot water, then plunge the washing-up brush into the foam and start vigorously swirling it around in the hopes that plates and cups will be battered long enough to get clean. The foam helps to deaden the noise of china clattering together under the onslaught and getting chipped, and singing loudly at the same time, Mrs Doubtfire style, adds the finishing touch. Come to think of it now, a dishwasher wouldn't be nearly as much fun! And one final thought for today... apparently there was a telephone scam going round where the caller would assure you that you'd just won a billion dollars and that all you had to do was to give over your name, address, social security number and a credit card number to cover the delivery costs. The only other condition was that you'd have to count the money, dollar by dollar to ensure it was all there. Someone worked out that to count a billion dollars without the aid of friends or a counting machine would take around 32 YEARS assuming you counted one dollar a second and never took breaks to eat, sleep or visit the bathroom! Boy am I glad I'm not rich =;o)
