First time journaling, where to begin? I am so thankful to find such great people to travel thru this darkness alongside of. After reading many of the entries, and feeling the emotion in each person's story, I hope to learn from, and perhaps help, as many of these fine people as possible along the way. I wish I would have found this community sooner. July 4th, My Nephew and his wife bought Sharry and I an early 25th anniversary present; two tickets to see one of our favorite bands, Rush, at Summerfest in Milwaukee. We had a great time. Sharry was so happy, and enjoyed the evening so much. She walked the grounds alongside of me with no sign of the tragedy that was about to come. Two nights later, I kissed her goodnight, and that was my last moment in this physical world with her.I awoke in the morning when our son brought me one of his music CDs that needed to be cleaned. Matthew cannot speak and did not understand why his mother did not wake up when he had first brought it to her. I got up and whispered that it was nice of you to let your mom sleep. I cleaned it for him, and slowly began to realize that the room was too quiet. I called her name, then again louder, then ran to her, begging her to wake up. I new she was gone as soon as I tried to begin CPR, all I could do is hold her in my arms until the emts arrived. Matt had no idea or concept of death. He just went to his room to play as my close friends came to help and comfort us. I remember having to leave her with the coroner and my best friend while I gave Matt his morning seizure medications, while he happily played his cd, unaware that we had both lost the most loved person in our lives, and that our world was ripped to pcs. I was forced to retire early from my job of 36 years to prevent Matt from having to be placed in a group home. There was no way I would let him lose his mom and his home. I love him more than my life, and am now His sole caregiver, and I will never let him or Sharry down.

Robert,
I am so sorry for your loss. I too lost my Husband suddenly from a heart attack and have 2 children, our Daughter has Down Syndrome and it is hard to try to explain what has happened and why her Daddy isn\'t coming back home, It is an extra burden we must carry to try to keep their lives as normal as their normal is as we try to figure out what our \"new\" normal will be. Again I am sorry this has happened to you and just try to take everything at your own pace, don\'t let anyone tell you how or what you should be feeling and only you can move forward the way you need.
Take care
Peace and Love
Laurie
Thank you Laurie. My deepest sympathy to you and your children. You know all to well the shock and devastation that sudden loss brings. Assuming the roles of both parents, without the love, support, and companionship that we were blessed to have all those years, is a steep mountain to climb. Even though I have kept Matt well cared for ,and the house and yard well maintained, the grief and loneliness just rips at the heart all day long. Our love for our children keeps us going, especially in our unique situation, having been entrusted by God with very special souls to love and care for. Matt and I send hugs to you and both of your children, and again thank you for your kindness. Robert
I am so sorry for the loss of your wife and Matt\'s mom. Thank you for the encouraging words and if I, or any one of these wonderful people can be of any help, don\'t hesitate to ask.

Thank you so much Janice, all of you are so supportive. Robert
