50 years
Today we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We are used to quiet anniversaries, a dinner out etc. Our next door neighbour said that she and another couple woul like to take us out for lunch. What a lunch it was! We got to the restaurant and another friend came in. I thought it was strange that she was there but thought perhaps she was meeting someone. Well she was actually there to help us celebrate. Our table was at the back and around a corner. We walked in to see about 15 or 20 people there. The huge surprise was Andrew and Tiina. They live in Edmonton, 3 hours north of us! They came just for the afternoon and had to go back as they didn't have a pet sitter for their dog and 4 cats. My friend Marie and her daughter Suzie came from Red Deer which is an hour and a half North. I didn't realize I had so many friends! It was a total surprise. Andrew had wished us Happy Anniversary on Facebook so I really surprised to see him sitting there!
I realized how blessed we are to have such wonderful friends. As I looked around, I saw people from different phases of my life. Most of them were people I worked with at one time or another. I smiled to myself as I saw an eclectic group of people. Wonderful, interesting and some quirky people. I love them all.
When we got home, Andrew skyped Cevyn and Brendan so we got to visit with them too.
The only downside is that Lisa wasn't there. I was in tears for a good part of the day. Tears of joy and tears of longing.
Lisa: I am sure you were there. But it hurts that I couldn't give you a hug. I miss you always and love you forever, Mummy

Fifty years ALL IN A ROW! What an absolutely lovely way to celebrate and with your thoughtfulness for others I'm not one bit surprised that they wanted to celebrate Joe and YOU! Happy Anniversary you two and to many more. I know Lisa IS sorely MISSED as these moments along with the others always bring them front row and center in our hearts.
Hearty congratulations your way!

Marlene, what a great surprise to mark such an important anniversary! What a treat to have your son and daughter in law there too.
Happy, happy anniversary to you and Joe! I know how difficult it is not having Lisa's physical presence there with you. The longing for Ed is always intensified for me too on those special days. It's understandable. Funny how joy and sadness coexist now, isn't it?
Lots of love and hugs to you and dearest Lisa, Linda
