5 years
Well it has been awhile since I have posted on here but I wanted to take a few minutes to catch up. As of April I had 5 years sober. The journey has been interesting to say the least but at least now I have some answers to why I always turned to the bottle when things were "out of sorts". I was diagnosed bipolar a couple of years ago and I found out that abusing alcohol and drugs were just my way of self medicating. Since being diagnosed, I have discovered some ways to cope with the bipolar disorder and have had no real desire to pick up a drink. I have found that if I use what I have learned that the really highs and lows have become less and less. I have been more on an even keel and have been able to maintain this. Of course I have to take some action and make sure I stay on my medication and also work my program but it seems to just keep getting easier and easier. I don't want to appear to have become complacent in my program because I can never do that. That, I have found, is the quickest way to picking up a drink or drug again. I guess you could say now I am just happy with life and dealing with life on life's terms. Thank you God!
