5 Weeks Post surgery
Hey everyone! Well its been 5 weeks since my surgery. Things are getting better, I'm not as sore as I use to be and have started to get out of the house more. I no longer have the chiropractor come to the house, I can actually move enough to go to his office, so I'm sure he appreciates that! lol I still need to see him though because my back is still messed up. I have a big knot the restricts my breathing on the lower left side that can only be adjusted by twisting my lower body and I'm not healed enough for that yet, so until then that part only gets deep tissue. I've been pain med free for 3 weeks and have been sleeping almost flat in my own bed! Thank god, I'm sure it wasn't helping my back sleeping on this god awful couch! I can sleep on the side my stoma is not on, sometimes I need a little support under my tummy like a pillow or a stuffed animal.
I went back into the city to see the ostomy nurse and surgeon last week. They both said everything looks great, I'm healing nicely and everything I'm reporting back to them is completely normal! She wants me to wait at least 3 more weeks before I have to test to see if my jpouch has healed enough to do the takedown.I have been leakage free so far (knock on wood) and this week when I change the applicance I am having the nurse do as little as possible to help me, so next week all she has to do it watch me and hopefully I will be discharged! But most importantly, I'm comfortable enough to change it by myself! I just got these new bags that I'm going to try this week that have a filter in it because while im sleeping it fills up with so much air that I'm afraid its going to pop on me when I sit up and go to empty it, so rather be paranoid and emptying it when I happen to wake in the middle of the night, this filter is suppose to let the air only out with odor pretection, so we will see how that works on Friday.
I'm starting to do more things around the house a little more, and although I still tend to get out of breath when I walk, I'm much better then I was and am picking up speed as well. My appetite is starting to come back, I'm starting to eat more and I find it that it helps and I eat more when I see or smell something that I want. I've been wanting a burrito for a week, so today I went to Qdoba for lunch today and ate a little more then half, which is really good for me. I definately don't eat the same portion size I use to, but that will come back in time I suppose. I do find it hard to eat meats, I don't know why, but when I've lost my appetite those were the hardest things for me to get back into eating, they just turn me off. I usually drink a boost when I get up in the morning, I've never been a breakfast
I went to weigh myself the other day and if my scale is right, I've lost 20lbs. I would have liked to see me lose the weight in my stomach, and I don't really see it, but everyone that sees me says I've lost a lot of weight is my face and lost a ton of muscle mass in my legs...My legs have always been pretty big for a little person, curtosy of playing softball and volleyball my whole life. People in the gym would come up to me and tell me they've been working on their legs for years and can't get the muscle line definition in their legs like I have. But now they look kinda skinny, and I put pants on to go out today and my legs were swimming in my addidas pants, I felt like I was back in the 80's wearing parachute pants!
Other than that I think I'm doing pretty well, I just hope everything that awaits me in the future works out with no problems. I've been pretty aggressive with what I've been eating and haven't had any problems or blockages! So fingers are crossed! Hope everyone is doing well and are out and enjoying this nice weather!
