Can someone tell me how it is that I GAINED 4-5 pounds in a weekend when I excercised my ass off? I hiked through 90-degree heat up a super-steep 1,000 foot elevation gain, and then I played an hour of ultimate frisebee on Sunday. I ate, sure, but nothing all that sinful. And yet, this morning, when I step on the scale, I'm 185 pounds. I've never been that heavy in my life. Now I can hear my wife saying "You've gained muscle...muscle weighs more than fat!", but I think that gives me too much credit. I do notice that when I eat pasta at night, my weight the next morning is like 2 pounds heavier. Maybe I finally need to just cut out the carbs. Especially in light of the forthcoming Whitney trek.

How about.. it\'s water weight.. does that make you feel any different that \"it\'s muscle\"?
It may depend on the scale you use. I think Earth\'s gravity is a constant, so we rule that out. Are you over the recommended weight for your height? If not, enjoy. The body changes are we get older.
If you were a woman I know what I would say but, I can\'t blame hormones and cycles on it can I? Water weight does happen to guys; and don\'t forget there are many other factors such as what we have or have not digested, time of day, etc.
instead of going by weight, try going by how your clothes it and how your body feels. I find for me anyway, that is a muich better indicator of my true weightand measurements.
Good luck!
Hmmmmm....i have no words of wisdom here
Dr O.
try another scale .......maybe your retaing water LOL
EVEN IF U R EATING LIGHT, U SHOULD NOT BE EATING AFTER 7PM. THE BODY NEEDS TIME 2 DIGUST FOOD. COULD THIS BE THE PROBLEM....
i hate that. back when i was in my eating obsession mode i acutally threw my scales away! i\'ve lost +/- 50 lbs. now so i\'m not doing that anymore. NTK is right it is not good to eat after 7. but i find that i will wake up in middle of night hungry if i don\'t have a small snack before bedtime, celery w/peanut butter, yogurt, etc. kudos for your active lifestyle!
No, you are not supposed to completely cut out any food group from you diet. And your true weight is how much you weigh in the mourning, after you have gone too the bathroom to pee or whatever, but before you eat anything. And remember it is just a number, and muscle really does weigh more than fat. What matter the most is how you cloths are fighting, and how you feel about your self, not the number on the scale.

Dont be so hard on your self, and please do not give up.
get your veggies, fruits and legumes in around your pasta... that\'ll keep the body flowing!
like cheerios said, I was gonna say I suspected water retention as well.
We don\'t have as much control of our bodies as we would like. They cycle and there are so many variables like sleep, that affect how our bodies respond to exercise and diet. If you ever watched biggest loser, some people worked their asses off, as you said, and it just wasn\'t their week to lose. But during other weeks, they lost heaps. I know that my wieght (40 KG/90lb) over is largely due to lack of sleep. In fact I have read (did a bit of nursing study at one point) that your body burns fat when you are at rest. It burns high energy sources, direct energy from carbs etc. when you are active. At rest it burns the slow release energy sources, lipids (fat), so the text books say. We are complex machines.
