here's something that few men, and probably fewer CEO's, admit:lately, i've caught myself crying. ok, have your laugh. just let me know when you're done.what's especially odd about the crying thing is that i've been pretty unemotional person for most of my life...in fact, most of my life i can think of the times when i DIDN'T cry when perhaps it would have been more appropriate. my innate reaction to something tragic has been to just go stone-faced and appear to be bewildered, which is usually how i'm feeling inside as well.what's done it to me is the kid thing. since i had kids, two things have happened: 1) i'm extremely sensitive to poignant family moments, and 2) i can't bear to witness bad things happening to kids. throughout our big Europe trip (we just got home yesterday), i'd find myself watching my daughter discover the Eiffel Tower or my son running in the grass outside our vacation home, and it'd just melt me. It's like it's too beautiful for words, and in my rush to try to verbalize it, my eyes start first. And then, as if that wasn't enough, I see things like this news report today about dozens of abandoned kids starving to death in Baghdad. It's got nothing to do with me (well, other than that my tax dollars have alot to do with that country right now), but seeing the pix of these kids chained to their cribs just wipes me out. I find myself in a similar way with movies. Just yesterday, on the plane, I watched "Freedom Writers", an otherwise unremarkable "white teacher enlightens poor kids" film, and I found myself blinking hard as the kids graduate and overcome milestones. Ahh, I'm growing soft.

I am not a stranger to that emotion and if you have not noticed my filling up on the drop of a hat. Males in our society are not supposed to cry however it\'s tough to be human and not!
It\'s so beautiful to read your words about real emotions. Now you\'ll begin to understand why I tear up at so many of our family events. We all are so lucky, and I appreciate every one of them. Just looking at all of you out on the grass or playing frisbee or even watching you change diapers causes me to well up (and it\'s not the odor). You both are amazing parents and are raising wonderful kids. I love you!
It is ok to cry. It shows how much compassion you have for others.
I know that there are a lot as human beings that loose sight of this.
If everyone could just accept each and every individual for who they are and love them as such, I firmly believe that it would end the war and help the the Earth survive the affects of global warming.
The thing is, that the most difficult questions have the simplest answers.
Thank you for sharing this. You are the most woderful, caring individual that I have ever met.
May your light always shine bright Doug.
All my best,
Michelle
Thanks for sharing...I feel you and I feel those emotions you spoke of, I just got done crying. - Life is rich it is beautiful and powerful to indulge in the emotions.
that is an amazing quality in a person - empathy with feelings
I, too, cried at that movie, and at a few other recent ones . . . I also was not an emotional person for most of my life, but since my brother got sick about a year and a half ago, I seem to cry even over small sad things . . .
Thats me...teary eyed all the time at things like that...welcome back
Sharon

First that just means your a real man. if you don\'t have emo.\'s then how can you truly love that what i ask men that say they don\'t cry. i think it is wonderful that means you r a good man, an r full of love nice to see that. next could have called i\'d watch kids on vac., so you could have alone time with wife, hey hang out with kids an free vac. who wouldn\'t offer. then last T.Y. so much for this site please let partners know this to. so whatever God you belive in know that he is with you an you r so special
You are a real man, and an even greater one for creating this site so I can give you the inspirational advice for what it takes to move on. Realize that you won\'t be able to keep your kids in a time bubble, and enjoy each and every great moment. Realize that by creating this site that you\'ve helped make this world a better place, and that you can only help save so many that you can\'t save the world, but you can inspire some. I hope this advice helps you as many times as you helped me.
Always
