ultimately, i think parenthood is about moments. moments of calm amidst the exhaustion and chaos of, well, being a parent. and what's amazing is how we forget the 1.5 hours of pain and complaining and we're left with the snapshot of that simple, brief moment when the stars aligned, the diaper was dry and the whole family was smiling.
i'm plagued by a notoriously bad memory -- seriously. this isn't the standard "oh, we all get older" thing. i don't know if it was the pot in my 20's, or (more likely) the ADHD that i've never been officially diagnosed with, but i'm already having a hard time remembering what kaya was like as a baby, and the sounds and smells of zade's infancy, and i know that some day, when i'm old and gray, it will be that, not my worldly possessions, that i will miss the most.
don't mean to be so heavy, as i'm actually in quite a good mood. just saw "Waitress", an "eh" movie which featured a young woman having the same epiphany i did when presented with my very own child. got me a bit weepy, i must say. so forgive the drama.
in other news...
- my daughter is now proclaiming that Reicher is her "husband", and that she will "follow him around all day", even if he "doesn't know it". a bit, err, stalker-ish?
- my son is counting and working on his letters, yet nothing beats Raffi and Dora. he's now addicted to videos, which given our upcoming 11 hour plane flight, couldn't make us happier.
- my wife is growing ever more buff. i've decided that, going forward, we should average our physical conditions into one whole one. as she improves, i'm doing my best to keep us in the same spot.

MY DAUGHTER IS 40. I CAN REMBER THE DAY SHE WAS BORN LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY.ALL THE SCREAMING AND CRYING I DID.BUT AT 15 I WAS`NT REALLY PREPARED. BUT I WAS YOUNGE ENOUGH TO REALLY ENJOY MY GRAND KIDS.IT GOES BY SO FAST.
It\'s normal for memories to fade - that\'s why people go so far out of their way to save photo albums in a house fire or flood. Keep them in a safe place!!
Parenting is a kind of delicious triage -- you\'re totally focused on the moment, dealing with the here-and-now. And the now is always so amazing! Makes it hard to retain prior stages. That, and the pot. ;^)
Have you heard about leapfrog\'s \"Letter Factory?\" Someone gave it to us and I kid you not, after THREE viewings, our son knew and recognized all his letters AND THEIR SOUNDS. I was dubious...and then flabbergasted. Apparently kids LOVE this vid (mine did). Worth shelling out the 10 bucks at Target. My son has moved up to \"The word factory\" and is busy spelling out all the words around him (those in all caps, anyway). Sorry to prattle on, just thought you might wanna know!
