i need a vacation.
i really do. while i love building this company, it's become all-ecompassing, and i need to remember that it is, at the end of the day, a job. it's the best job i've ever had, and i work with wonderful people and get to help people for a living, but it is still the thing that i do when i'm not with my wife, my family and friends.
ok, complaining time is over. now a few stories:
1) i am one of the few lucky people on the planet who had the opportunity to see PRINCE in concert in Las Vegas. last friday, our good friends invited us out to see Prince play in this tiny club in the Rio hotel. we found kid coverage, hopped on a plane, and suddenly it was 1230 and Prince (who is quite tiny in person) was gyrating about 12 feet from my face. this show was one of those life-changing events where you realize the power of music as therapy, washing away my stress and consuming us with "Nothing Compares 2 U", "Little Red Corvette", and a bunch of other classics. And then, to top it off, Sheila E comes out at the end and did her little drum thing. OK, this may not sound cool to all you 18-year-olds out there, but to us 30-somethings, this is heaven.
2) My 4-year-old daughter got married yesterday. a full-on Jewish wedding, complete with a broken (plastic) glass, a groom (her classmate), a boquet, a wedding dress, a cake and dancing. it was a blast, if a bit poignant and a bit creepy. video forthcoming.

The wedding is something I will remember. Doug, you are the most loving and creative father. We hope to be around for the real event. I disagree that better days are ahead. What a wonderful life you are living today!
I can imagine it would be hard to take a break, but absolutely necessary. Take some time for yourself to unwind. :)
