got back sunday night from the first Family Camping Trip.

typically, our family isn't all that into the 'roughing it' thing...we like our creature comforts. but this time we decided to go with the flow, ignore the paranoid voices in our heads, and we hopped on a 2.5 hour ferry, then a dusty 30 minute ride to a remote beach in Catalina, off the Los Angeles coast.

of course, this wasn't totally back-country...we brought about 80 lbs of gear for one night, including a tent that slept 8 (we're 4) and was so big that we could have easily held a major rock festival inside.

we had a great, great time and did all the usual camping stuff...s'mores, fire, beach discoveries, a little bit of hiking, and more.

my favorite thing, by far, was sleeping together, all 4 of us, like sardines. we put z and k down around 8:30, and were amazed to see them both drift off to sleep quite quickly...and then when we snuck in later, i got to lie in the dark, listening to my children's slow breaths as i watched the glow of the full moon cross the night sky.
